Standing 161 cm tall with blood type O, he is known for his versatility in portraying a wide range of characters, from young boys to young men.

Abe's interest in performance began in high school, where he participated in the drama club. Despite this passion, he pursued a practical path after graduation, earning a university degree in economics. However, the desire to become a voice actor persisted, and he enrolled in the Tokyo Broadcast Academy with the mindset that it was his final opportunity to enter the field. His talent was quickly recognized, as he was selected from a joint audition at the academy to join School Duo, the training school affiliated with Ken Production. After completing his training, he officially joined Ken Production in 2006, marking the start of his professional career.

His first major recurring role came in 2007 as Kukai Soma in the popular anime Shugo Chara!. The following year, 2008, proved to be a significant breakthrough. He landed his first leading roles in two series: Akiyuki Takehara in the supernatural action Xam'd: Lost Memories and, most notably, Tōma Kamijō in A Certain Magical Index. The role of Tōma Kamijō became a defining part of his career, a character he would reprise across numerous sequels, including A Certain Magical Index II, A Certain Magical Index III, and the spin-off series A Certain Scientific Railgun, as well as in video games and an animated film. This performance cemented his status as a leading voice actor and contributed to him receiving the Best New Actor Award at the 4th Seiyu Awards in 2010.

Throughout his career, Abe has demonstrated a remarkable range, taking on lead roles in a wide variety of genres. He voiced the determined aspiring manga artist Moritaka Mashiro in the acclaimed series Bakuman., the mysterious Kōichi Sakakibara in the horror classic Another, and the titular character Ushio Hinomaru in the sumo anime Hinomar Sumo. He has also shown his ability to play characters with different personalities, from the intense and charismatic villain Ren Suzugamori in the long-running Cardfight!! Vanguard franchise to the composed and gentle idol Sōgo Ōsaka in the hit series IDOLiSH7, a role he has played across multiple seasons and a film. Other notable roles from the user's list include the energetic cyclist Tōichirō Izumida in Yowamushi Pedal, the protagonist Sōya Kuroi in Planet With, and Yuuki in the game adaptation Princess Connect! Re:Dive.

His work is not limited to anime series. Abe has an extensive filmography in video games, lending his voice to characters such as Alto in Stella Glow and Sorata Suzuhara in Norn9. He also participates in drama CDs and provides Japanese dubbing for foreign films and television series. In 2009, he formed the music unit G.Addict with fellow voice actors Yūki Kaji, Takuma Terashima, and Kazuma Horie, performing theme songs related to their work on the Goulart Knights OVA. He maintains friendly relationships with several colleagues in the industry, notably Tsubasa Yonaga, who was his classmate at the training school, and Nobuhiko Okamoto, with whom he has frequently co-starred. Abe continues to be an active and prominent figure in the voice acting world, with recent and upcoming roles in projects like 9-nine- Ruler's Crown and the second season of Farming Life in Another World.
