Description
Hiraku Machio is the central figure in the story, a human who was reincarnated into a fantasy world after a difficult life on Earth. In his original life, he was a Japanese office worker who suffered from poor health for many years due to overwork at an abusive company, which led to frequent hospitalizations and his eventual death at the age of thirty-nine. After his death, his soul met with the God of Creation, who offered him a second chance. His wishes were simple: a healthy body and a peaceful life as a farmer, drawing inspiration from farming programs he watched on television. The god granted these wishes, also giving him the ability to understand all languages and a mystical item known as the Almighty Farming Tool, before sending him to his new world.
Upon arrival, Hiraku found himself in the middle of a dangerous area known as the Forest of Death. He immediately began clearing land around a single enormous tree, which would become the heart of his new home. His personality is defined by a deep-seated kindness and an inability to ignore those in need. This compassion, paired with the prosperity his farming brings, naturally draws a wide variety of individuals and races to his settlement. He is a pacifist at heart who hates conflict and actively seeks to build friendly relationships with outside groups, but this peaceful demeanor disappears entirely when his village, his crops, or his loved ones are threatened. In such instances, he can be utterly merciless and decisive, as shown when he single-handedly killed a attacking wyvern.
Despite being the de facto leader of a large and powerful village, Hiraku maintains a humble and unassuming view of himself. He insists he is just an ordinary farmer and prefers not to stand out, often deflecting credit to his tools or the help of others. This perspective is heavily influenced by his long years of illness and isolation on Earth, which have given him a skewed perception of what is normal. He often fails to realize how extraordinary his own abilities are, or how his actions appear to others. For instance, he initially mistook a pack of Inferno Wolves for stray dogs and showed no fear towards monsters, because his understanding is based on Earthly logic rather than the reality of his new world. This disconnect causes him to make incorrect assumptions about fantasy races, such as believing vampires manipulate blood or that elves dislike iron, assumptions that are quickly corrected by the individuals themselves.
Hiraku's primary motivation is simply to live a quiet, fulfilling life tending to his land. He is not driven by a desire for power, wealth, or adventure. His greatest joy is in the daily rhythm of farming, watching things grow, and building a home. However, the organic growth of his village forces him into an unexpected role as a leader. While his official title is the Village Chief of the Big Tree Village, many of his residents view him with the reverence of a lord or even an emperor, though he rejects such grand titles. His role in the story, therefore, is not as a warrior or a king, but as a provider and a pillar of the community. He is the foundation upon which the entire village is built, and its prosperity is almost entirely a result of his unilateral support.
His key relationships are numerous and form the core of the community. He first befriended a male and pregnant female Inferno Wolf, naming them Kuro and Yuki, whose loyalty and fierce protection become invaluable. He then met Ru, a vampire, and Tia, an angel, who were initially enemies but both became his wives after finding shelter in his home. Later, a group of High Elves joined the village, followed by countless others including lizardmen, dwarves, ogres, and even demons. Many of these non-human races, particularly the High Elves and later the angel and vampire retinues, have a strong motivation to bear his children to help repopulate their own species. Though Hiraku initially wished only to be with Ru and Tia, he was heavily pressured by these circumstances and eventually fathered many children. He is a doting and good parent to all of his offspring, often worrying they do not love him, though the opposite is true.
Character development for Hiraku is subtle, as he largely remains the same kind-hearted and hard-working individual at his core. The primary change is his gradual acceptance of his leadership role, which he never desired. Over time, he learns to delegate tasks and trust the growing number of capable individuals around him, allowing the village to flourish. He also reluctantly, and often comically, comes to terms with the polygamous family structure that has formed around him, even as he continues to cling to his Earth-born sense of monogamy as an ideal.
Hiraku's most notable abilities are not his own physical prowess, but the gifts he was given. He possesses a perfectly healthy body, which grants him immunity to all diseases, a resistance to negative status effects, incredible stamina that allows him to work tirelessly, and possibly a greatly slowed or halted aging process. His true power, however, comes from the Almighty Farming Tool. This divine artifact can transform into any non-powered farming implement he imagines, such as a hoe, axe, shovel, or sickle. Beyond simple transformation, the tool has extraordinary effects. The hoe plowed land becomes instantly fertile and grows whatever crop the user is thinking of at an accelerated rate. The axe can cut the supernaturally hard trees of the Forest of Death with a single swing. The shovel can dig wells that immediately fill with fresh water. As a holdover from its original nature as a holy lance replica, it can also transform into a spear of devastating power, capable of piercing any magical barrier and slaying dragons in a single throw. This power is offset by its immense drain on the user's life force, but Hiraku's "healthy body" constantly replenishes his energy, allowing him to wield it without consequence. Aside from this tool, Hiraku possesses no magical ability and is otherwise a normal, average human in terms of strength and skill.
