Description
Approximately 20,000 clones of Misaka Mikoto, created through the Radio Noise Project. Researchers obtained Mikoto's DNA deceptively, promising aid for children with muscular disabilities but instead using it for cloning. Initial Tree Diagram supercomputer simulations predicted the clones would only reach Level 2-3 electromaster abilities, roughly 1% of Mikoto's Level 5 power. The Level 6 Shift experiment repurposed them, calculating Accelerator needed to kill 20,000 clones to potentially reach Level 6, an alternative to defeating 128 Level 5 versions of Mikoto.

Physically identical to Mikoto at creation, they initially possessed longer hair later cut short. Their most distinguishing feature is specialized goggles enabling electron and magnetic field visualization, compensating for inferior sensory capabilities compared to the original. Their eyes are often depicted as lifeless in media, though characters within the story do not note this visual distinction.

Personality development involved initial emotional suppression due to experimental requirements, leading to expressionless demeanors and third-person speech patterns. They are not devoid of emotion, experiencing feelings without fully comprehending them. Following the experiment's termination, they developed distinct individuality and self-worth, moving beyond viewing themselves as disposable entities. A shared emotional shift occurred across the network after Kamijou Touma saved one Sister, resulting in collective affection towards him. This manifests in individual behaviors like dieting attempts or gift-giving competitions.

Misaka 20001, designated Last Order, was created as a control mechanism shortly before project termination. She functions as the network administrator with authority over other clones. The collective consciousness of all 20,001 clones coalesces into the "Will of the Misaka Network," a distinct entity residing within the network. This consciousness can possess any Sister's body except Misaka Worst's, exhibits a broader emotional range, uses different speech patterns, and demonstrates concern for Touma. Accelerator identifies this collective will as a "third existence" separate from entities like Hyouka or Aiwass.

Their primary ability is Radio Noise, a weaker variant of Mikoto's electromastery. They emit disruptive electromagnetic waves causing animals like cats to avoid them. Crucially, they form the Misaka Network through shared brainwave patterns, enabling quasi-telepathic communication, memory sharing, and collective processing power. Individual clones can withhold information from the network post-experiment. The network's computational capabilities proved essential for compensating Accelerator's brain damage after his injury. It can also forcibly utilize clones to manifest artificial angels like Kazakiri Hyouka's Fuse KAZAKIRI form.

Standard equipment includes the F2000R assault rifle and Metal Eater MX handgun. Shared experiences via the network grant proficiency with any weapon utilized by another Sister. They employed a Railgun prototype in the movie.

The Sisters Arc details their origin and the Level 6 Shift experiment. Mikoto discovers the clones after encountering Misaka 9982 and Accelerator, leading her to sabotage research facilities. Despite her efforts, the distributed nature of the project continued the experiments. Touma learns of the project through Misaka 10032 and confronts Accelerator, defeating him with support from Mikoto and the Sisters, ultimately halting the experiment.

Post-experiment, clones underwent medical treatment for accelerated aging issues. Last Order sought Accelerator's help after escaping cultivation, leading to his intervention against a virus targeting the network. Throughout other media, including the "Endymion no Kiseki" movie, they appear in cameo roles.
