Description
Kinuho Wannai is a Level 3 esper at Tokiwadai Middle School, sharing classes with Kuroko Shirai and competing on the swimming team. She shares dormitory life in the School Garden with close friends Awatsuki Maaya and Mitsuko Kongou, possessing short wavy light-brown hair, blue eyes, and a notably developed bust.
Shortly after transferring to Tokiwadai, delinquents harassed her until Misaka Mikoto intervened, kindling profound gratitude and admiration. Kinuho addresses Mikoto with the respectful suffix "-sama". She radiates kindness, consideration, and forgiveness, showing consistent politeness and respect toward upperclassmen. Generally non-confrontational and timid around men, she often leans on Maaya for support. However, she displays remarkable courage and fierce loyalty when friends face threats, becoming visibly angered if someone harms or insults companions like Kongou.
Her esper ability, Hydro Hand, commands water currents. As a Level 3, she manipulates up to 300 liters simultaneously, split into a maximum of four cohesive clumps. Overly scattered water becomes uncontrollable and lost water cannot be reformed, requiring new sources. Visual contact isn't necessary, allowing her to direct water through underground drains or into machinery. Combat applications see water whips lash, bullets fire, streams surge, and protective spheres form. Her techniques destroy robotic Type: Great Danes and damage structures like wooden bridges. Her athletic human-level physical capabilities are augmented by water manipulation, offering wall-level defensive durability when blocking attacks, though repeated impacts deplete her water reserves. Her effective range reaches approximately 18 meters.
Kinuho frequently appears alongside Maaya and Kongou across key events. During the Poltergeist arc, she participates in the Tokiwadai Midsummer Festival and visits the hospitalized Kongou. In the Silent Party arc, she and Maaya assist Kongou confronting a purse snatcher before uniting with Mikoto's group to protect Febrie from STUDY. Acting as vanguards during the assault on STUDY's powered suits, Kinuho's Hydro Hand distracts enemies while Maaya's Float Dial manipulates buoyancy, funneling adversaries toward Kongou for elimination. They later support Kongou launching a mecha into the atmosphere to aid Mikoto's railgun attack.
At the Daihasei Festival, Kinuho loans her physical education uniform to Misaka 10032, mistaking her for Mikoto. She and Maaya actively search for Mikoto to recruit her for Tokiwadai's Balloon Hunter. When Yoshio Baba incapacitates Kongou with a disabling nanodevice, Kinuho and Maaya intervene. Kinuho cleverly uses pre-positioned water routed through underground drains to overcome Yoshio's attempts to isolate her from sources, while Maaya neutralizes his robotic mosquitoes. Their coordination leads to his defeat, with Mikoto ensuring he poses no further threat. Kinuho often provides vital logistical support and combat assistance, particularly leveraging her aquatic manipulation.
