Description
Yūto Kidō endured a tragic childhood, losing both parents in a plane crash at a young age and growing up in an orphanage alongside his younger sister, Haruna. An old soccer magazine, his sole connection to his father, inspired him to play the sport as a way to feel closer to him. He and Haruna were separated when adopted into different families; Kidō was taken in by the Kidō Financial Group after his soccer talents caught the attention of Kageyama Reiji at age six. To reunite with his sister, he struck a deal with his adoptive father: win three consecutive national championships in junior high, or risk being forced to leave his family and losing Haruna permanently. This relentless drive defined his early career, leading him to avoid contact with Haruna to shield her from his struggles—a choice that inadvertently made her feel she was a burden.
Initially portrayed as shady, haughty, and obedient to Kageyama, Kidō served as captain and strategic leader of Teikoku Gakuen's soccer team. He wore goggles gifted by Kageyama to sharpen his focus on the ball, and his tactical precision earned him the title "Genius Game Maker." His perspective shifted after uncovering Kageyama's unethical methods, including opponent sabotage. This prompted him to rebel, investigate Kageyama's traps, and eventually forfeit a national match against Raimon. Following Teikoku's loss to Zeus, Kidō joined Raimon, though his transition faced initial resistance from teammates, including his sister. With his strategic mind, he helped Raimon win the Football Frontier and defeat Zeus.
In subsequent seasons, Kidō grew into a key player for Raimon and later Inazuma Japan. During the Aliea Academy arc, he confronted Kageyama anew and wrestled with feelings of betrayal toward his former Teikoku teammates. He mastered techniques like Death Zone 2 and played a crucial role in defeating antagonistic teams. In the Football Frontier International arc, he faced an identity crisis, fearing he could not escape Kageyama's influence, but overcame it by embracing Endou Mamoru's philosophy of soccer. He formed strategic partnerships with players like Fudō Akio and Sakuma Jirō, mastering moves such as Koutei Penguin 3gou. His sister Haruna was briefly kidnapped during this time, intensifying his resolve to protect her.
In later series, Kidō appeared as an adult in Inazuma Eleven GO, serving as commander and coach for Teikoku's soccer team and later as a temporary coach for Raimon. His coaching style was harsh yet effective, focusing on individual player strengths. He retained his logical and observant nature but matured into a calmer presence. In Inazuma Eleven GO Chrono Stone, he coached El Dorado Team 01, and in the crossover film Inazuma Eleven GO VS Danball Senki W, he played as a midfielder for Inazuma Legend Japan.
In the alternate timeline of Inazuma Eleven Ares no Tenbin, Kidō was a midfielder and reinforcement committee member for Seishou Gakuen. In Inazuma Eleven Orion no Kokuin, he returned as a midfielder for Inazuma Japan, contributing strategic expertise to international matches. Later, he joined Zhao Jinyuns, further demonstrating his adaptability and leadership. Across these appearances, his tactical acumen remained central, often involving collaborations with players like Kazemaru Ichirouta to dismantle opposing strategies.
Kidō's abilities encompass techniques such as Twin Boost, Illusion Ball, Inazuma Break, Death Zone, Killer Fields, and Big Bang. His playing style evolved to incorporate both individual and cooperative moves, marking his growth from a solitary strategist to a team-oriented leader. His relationships with teammates, particularly Endou Mamoru, Gouenji Shūya, and his sister Haruna, underscore his deeper motivations and emotional development, tracing a path from a win-at-all-costs mentality to a belief in soccer as a unifying and joyful pursuit.
