Description
Shūya Gōenji debuts as Kidokawa Seishuu's "legendary striker," a forward of exceptional skill from a prestigious soccer school. Transferring to Raimon Junior High, he initially rejects soccer, burdened by guilt over his sister Yuuka's coma—a tragedy he blames on his involvement in the sport. Carrying an amulet crafted by Yuuka, he vows abstinence until her recovery. Witnessing Endou Mamoru's passion and realizing Yuuka would desire his return, he rejoins the team with fierce resolve to conquer the Football Frontier.

At Raimon, Gōenji emerges as the ace striker, forging a pivotal alliance with Endou. He pioneers fire-themed shooting techniques, epitomized by his signature Fire Tornado. His playing identity balances icy composure against blazing on-field intensity. He leads through direct correction, refocusing teammates by striking balls at them during lapses.

During Inazuma Eleven 2, distractions prompt his temporary departure from Raimon mid-match, though he returns to combat Aliea Academy, innovating moves like Bakunetsu Storm. In Inazuma Eleven 3, he joins Japan's youth team Inazuma Japan for the Football Frontier International. Facing paternal pressure to abandon soccer for medical studies in Germany, he recommits to the team. He co-creates techniques like Tiger Storm with Toramaru and scores the decisive goal against Little Gigant using the collaborative hissatsu Jet Stream alongside Endou and Toramaru.

In Inazuma Eleven GO, Gōenji adopts the alias Ishido Shuuji, Holy Emperor of the soccer-controlling Fifth Sector. As Ishido, he coaches Seidouzan Junior High under Fifth Sector's rigid policies. His appearance shifts dramatically, featuring azure hair highlights, earrings, and formal wear. He coldly denies his identity when confronted by Endou, displaying no remorse for manipulating soccer—though hidden guilt simmers beneath. His true aim surfaces as a sacrificial ploy to shield the sport from deeper corruption.

During GO Galaxy, as Japan Youth Soccer Association chairman, Gōenji receives a time bracelet from Helper X to thwart the alien force El Dorado. He becomes first contact for the visitor Ozrock. In this administrative role, he enforces strict authority, rejecting appeals to replace Inazuma Japan's coach despite pleas from Shindou and the vice-coach.

In the parallel timeline of Inazuma Eleven: Ares no Tenbin, Gōenji remains Kidokawa Seishuu's forward. Continuing in Inazuma Eleven: Orion no Kokuin with Inazuma Japan at the Football Frontier International, he suffers an injury against South Korea's Red Bison, leading to his temporary substitution by Kira Hiroto.

Across his journey, Gōenji internalizes emotions while exhibiting unwavering soccer devotion. Conflicts arise from balancing familial duties against athletic passion. A manga chapter notes his tendency to overthink and suppress feelings, creating communication barriers despite inherent thoughtfulness. His sister's influence drives early choices, while later actions prioritize preserving soccer's integrity through play and leadership.
