Description
Saaya Yamabuki attends Hanasakigawa Girls' High School and drums for Poppin'Party. Her friendship with Kasumi Toyama began at their entrance ceremony, evolving into daily shared lunches. Beyond the band, she bonds with Tomoe over shared older-sister roles and drumming, and with Moca, a regular visitor to her family's bakery. She works part-time at RiNG live venue alongside Kasumi and Shūichi Taki.
As the eldest of three siblings—Jun and Sana—Saaya assists at the family-run Yamabuki Bakery, juggling school and bakery duties. In middle school, she played in CHiSPA but withdrew before a major performance when her mother's illness caused her absence. Fearing she burdened bandmates and family, she abandoned music until Kasumi's encouragement and her mother's backing reignited her passion, making her Poppin'Party's final recruit.
An alternate storyline depicts Saaya in night classes while Kasumi attends daytime, resulting in a shared desk. Here, she manages household chores and bakery prep while caring for three younger siblings. Her father's illness preceded the band departure, with her mother deceased.
Physically, Saaya has slanted royal blue eyes and long, curly dusty brown hair, typically tied in a high ponytail with a ribbon. Her hairstyle includes spread-out bangs and shoulder-length curled forelocks. Her initial outfit featured long pale yellow pants and a white, frilly off-the-shoulder top.
Kind, empathetic, and hardworking, Saaya prioritizes others' well-being. Her level-headed, easygoing nature positions her as Poppin'Party's "older sister," offering support during struggles. Mature and adept with children, she struggles to decline requests like tutoring Hagumi. She internalizes guilt, fearing personal pursuits like music might neglect family or inconvenience others—a mindset rooted in her mother's collapse before CHiSPA's performance. Overcoming this guilt involved Kasumi and her mother urging her to balance responsibilities and passions.
Trivia notes her three-drumstick technique, highlighted in *BanG Dream! Girls Band Party!☆PICO* and referenced in the main story. She collects hair scrunchies and shares a 157 cm height with Ran, Rinko, Misaki, and Nanami. Animals typically avoid her, biting, scratching, or fleeing interactions. She enjoys romance movies and Cinderella tales. After the "My Design, My Texture" event, she pursued photography, often carrying a camera and serving as Poppin'Party's pamphlet photographer during "Welcome to Open School!" Her design was adapted for Shokuhou Misaki in the *A Certain Scientific Railgun T* collaboration.
Her surname Yamabuki (山吹) combines "mountain" (山) and "song/wind" (吹), referencing the Kerria japonica flower. Saaya (沙綾) blends "sand" (沙) and "satin-like silk" (綾). In the original storyline, she used katakana (サアヤ) when exchanging diaries with Kasumi.
