Shunsuke Imaizumi attends Sohoku High School as a member of its bicycle racing club. His competitive cycling journey began in middle school, fueled by an ambition to become the world's fastest cyclist. Early experiences shaped his initial racing philosophy: a logical focus on individualism, prioritizing riding at the front for "peace, quiet, and clear air," a tactic born from winning his first race by breaking away from a noisy pack. A prior loss to Akira Midousuji deeply affected him, forging a complex that intensified his competitive drive and narrowed his focus solely on surpassing Midousuji.
Physically, he possesses short black spiky hair, dark narrow eyes, and a tall, lean build. His appearance matured from a youthful look to sharper, more defined features over time. He typically wears cycling gear, school uniforms, or collects usagi-branded t-shirts.
Initially defined by pride and reserve, he displayed dismissiveness towards newcomers like Sakamichi Onoda and Terufumi Sugimoto, struggling to offer compliments and maintaining a cold exterior. Exposure to Sohoku's team dynamics, particularly during the Inter High championships, prompted significant growth. He learned to value teamwork, acknowledging races "are not ridden on my power alone," and shifted from purely calculated tactics to embrace aggressive riding. This evolution included supporting teammates in critical moments and mentoring younger members, such as advising Shoukichi Naruko to become an all-rounder.
As an all-rounder cyclist, he excels in both sprinting and climbing, utilizing frequent gear shifting and strategic planning. A pivotal development occurred during Sohoku’s 1000km Training Camp, where training without gear shifters enhanced his bike control. His abilities fully awakened during the third day of the 41st Inter High, enabling him to defeat Midousuji. Post-race, his damaged bike was replaced with a light blue Scott frame featuring motorized gear shifters, allowing faster shifts and improved performance.
In his second year, he assumed the role of Sohoku’s ace. During the 42nd Inter High, he demonstrated leadership by coordinating team logistics, like carrying supplies for all six members on the final day. He continued mentoring rookies and emphasized collective strength over individual prowess. His achievements include placing 2nd in the 11th Chiba Cycling Road Race (middle school), 6th in the 41st Inter High, 4th in the Minegayama Hill Climb, and 4th in the 42nd Inter High.
Outside cycling, he collects European cycling caps and hats. He enjoys solitude, listening to movie soundtracks via earphones, and watching waves at empty beaches. He dislikes crowds and losing. Coming from an affluent family, he has a butler/driver named Takahashi and a younger sister with whom he shares limited rapport. Academically, he excels in classical Japanese and displays proficiency in ping-pong.
