Description
Soushi Minashiro is a central figure whose existence spans multiple iterations and timelines. The son of the commander of the secret military fortress Alvis, hidden beneath Tatsumiyajima Island, he was groomed from a young age to assume command. This responsibility led to an isolated childhood, burdened by the heavy secret of the ongoing war against the Festum, an alien race that had devastated much of the world, including Japan, decades earlier.
An accident in his youth involving his childhood friend Kazuki Makabe left his left eye scarred, resulting in incomplete vision that barred him from piloting a Fafner unit. Instead, he served as a battle commander, connecting directly into the minds of the pilots through the Siegfried System supercomputer to direct them in combat. This role, combined with his isolated upbringing, rendered him socially awkward and often perceived as unapproachable or cold, though Kazuki Makabe remained a steadfast presence in his life.
His story shifted dramatically at the conclusion of the Fourth Operation Azure, when the original Soushi Minashiro was assimilated by the Festum and reborn. He was discovered by Kazuki Makabe, Kouyou Kasugai, and Misao Kurusu inside the ejected cockpit of the Mark Nicht Fafner, surrounded by green crystals. Two years later, he appeared with Kazuki, gazing at the sea and pondering the world beyond, displaying confusion and a lack of memory regarding his past.
In the subsequent narrative of *The Beyond*, this reincarnated Soushi emerges as a young child, frightened during a seismic event and comforted by Maris Excelsior, who puts him to sleep and carries him to safety aboard a rocket. Three years later, he is shown fully grown on an island resembling Tatsumiyajima, still staring at the ocean with curiosity about what lies beyond. He lives with a family—a father, mother, and a sister figure named Tsubaki—though this environment is later revealed to be a fabricated paradise.
Driven by a desire to understand the outside world, he uses a radio to communicate despite warnings from Maris about the lack of peace beyond his island. He makes contact with an individual who promises to show him the truth, later revealed to be Kazuki Makabe. This encounter shatters his illusory world as the citizens around him transform into Festum and attack. Forced to flee his fabricated home with Kazuki, he witnesses the harsh reality of the outside world for the first time and the destruction of the fake Tsubaki by Kazuki. This traumatic experience leads him to declare that he will kill Kazuki.
Throughout the broader series, including appearances in *Right of Left*, *Heaven and Earth*, and *Exodus*, his character is defined by his strategic mind, his deep connection to Kazuki Makabe—which often serves as an emotional anchor for both—and his unwavering dedication to protecting Tatsumiyajima. The spirit of his original incarnation interacts with his reincarnated self, briefly transferring his scar to the new Soushi’s eye before disappearing, suggesting a profound and mystical connection between his different existences.
The reincarnated Soushi in *The Beyond* is a distinct entity from the original, characterized by a lack of memory from his previous life and a youthful rebellion against his confined existence. He strives to learn about the world beyond his island, embarking on a journey of rediscovery where he confronts the truths of his own identity and the fabricated nature of his reality, ultimately leading him into direct conflict with the person who was once his closest friend.
