Kohei Kiyasu
Description
Kohei Kiyasu is a Japanese actor, voice actor, director, and screenwriter. He was born on February 19, 1975, in Ehime Prefecture and is a graduate of the Hiroshima University Faculty of Education, where he majored in art. His career in the performing arts began in 1996 with stage acting, and he became a member of the theater troupe Nylon 100°C in 1999. The following year, in 2000, he founded his own theater company, Bulldocking Headlock.
Kiyasu made his debut as an anime voice actor in the year 2000, landing the lead role of Ippo Makunouchi in the television anime Hajime no Ippo (Fighting Spirit). This marked the beginning of a prolific career in animation, though he is also recognized for his extensive work as a writer for film and television.
His filmography as a voice actor is highlighted by several long-running and iconic roles. He is well known for his portrayal of the intense Kaoru Kaidoh (also known as Kaoru Kaidō) across the entire Prince of Tennis franchise, starting from the original 2001 television series through to The Prince of Tennis II: U-17 World Cup. He has also had a long association with the Fafner franchise, consistently voicing the character Soushi Minashiro (also known as Sōshi Minashiro) in numerous installments, including the original series Fafner in the Azure, the film Fafner: Heaven and Earth, and the series Fafner EXODUS and Fafner THE BEYOND. Another significant early role was that of Kazuhiko Aikawa in the basketball anime Hoop Days (Dear Boys).
In addition to his voice acting, Kiyasu has built a distinguished career as a screenwriter. He received significant critical recognition for his work on the 2012 live-action film The Kirishima Thing, for which he was nominated for the Best Screenplay award at both the 36th Japan Academy Film Prize and the 7th Asian Film Awards. He has also taken on the role of series composition writer for anime, first doing so for the 2018 series Run with the Wind. His writing credits extend to upcoming projects such as the 2025 television drama The Family. Kiyasu announced his marriage in December 2017.
