TV-Series
Description
Kenji Kondo is introduced as a first-generation Fafner pilot on Tatsumiya Island, assigned to the Mark Acht (VIII) unit. Initially depicted as a sociable student, he frequently expresses interest in pursuing romantic relationships and suggests outings to meet girls. He views Kazuki Makabe as a rival, often challenging him in sparring and other activities, though Kazuki does not reciprocate this rivalry. Kenji undergoes mandatory Fafner pilot training after being selected by the island's defensive organization, Alvis.

Following the original series, Kenji shifts from active piloting to a medical and operational role within Alvis. By *Exodus*, he works in the medical office, overseeing newer pilots' health, ensuring post-battle examinations, and reminding colleagues of appointments. He maintains a close relationship with Sakura Kaname, eventually marrying her (leading her to take the surname Kondou). Their shared meals reflect mutual care and Kenji's contentment. He also works alongside Maya Toomi in the medical department, showing professional camaraderie sometimes marked by lighthearted disagreements over workplace decorum.

Kenji's responsibilities expand significantly in *The Beyond*. He operates the critical Siegfried System, coordinating Fafner units during combat. During the Fifth Operation Azure, he monitors the battlefield while viewing a personal video of his wife and son, indicating his enduring familial bonds. When the enemy Festum infiltrates the system through pilot Rina Nishio, Kenji and others face assimilation, causing their physical forms to erode. To halt this, he administers three Activion tubes directly into his neck. This action forces the system's disconnection, stopping assimilation for most personnel but causing severe hemorrhaging from his eyes, nose, and mouth. Despite his injuries, he recognizes Rina's intent to sacrifice herself and urgently orders her to stop, unable to prevent her fate.

Throughout his journey, Kenji evolves from a carefree student into a dedicated protector, prioritizing community and loved ones' safety above his own. His roles transition from frontline piloting to strategic support and medical oversight, culminating in his pivotal and sacrificial actions during *The Beyond*.
