Description
Sayoko Shinozaki, a Japanese woman, begins as Milly Ashford's personal maid before transferring her duties to care for Lelouch and Nunnally vi Britannia (using the Lamperouge alias) at Ashford Academy. She assists Nunnally daily, teaching her origami and providing care during Lelouch's frequent absences. Her perspective on life at Ashford is captured in "Sayoko's Diary" segments, offering a humorously skewed view due to her limited awareness of larger events; she often misinterprets Lelouch's secretive activities as crossdressing or womanizing.
Trained as the 37th successor of the Shinozaki School of martial arts, she possesses exceptional combat abilities, earning the moniker "Supermaid." Her skills enable her to fight evenly with formidable opponents like Suzaku Kururugi. Near the end of the first season, Diethard Reid recruits her into the Black Knights as a spy after she easily passes unconventional recruitment tests involving quizzes, swordplay, and baseball.
Following the failed Black Rebellion, she escapes to the Chinese Federation but later returns to oversee the delivery of glacier ships for Zero's operations. Lelouch reveals his identity as Zero to her, making her one of the few entrusted with this secret. Using a voice-changing mask, she becomes his body double at Ashford Academy. Her portrayal of Lelouch diverges significantly from his true personality, depicting him as overly kind and athletically gifted, much to his dismay. During the second battle of Tokyo, she attempts to rescue Nunnally and appears caught in a F.L.E.I.J.A. blast but escapes with Nunnally into Schneizel el Britannia's custody. She subsequently flees to warn Lelouch of Schneizel's plan to use Nunnally against him. Jeremiah Gottwald notes her unwavering loyalty to Lelouch despite her Japanese heritage, comparing it to his own sense of chivalry.
Months after Lelouch's death in *Lelouch of the Resurrection*, she joins Schneizel's rescue mission in Zilkhstan to locate Zero and Nunnally. She reunites with C.C. and the resurrected Lelouch, aiding their infiltration of the Wailing Prison. She secures a Knightmare Frame for Kallen Kozuki, helps fend off pursuers, and assists in the group's escape. Later, while under Geass influence, she protects Nina Einstein, Lloyd Asplund, and Cecile Croomy from assassins sent by Swaile Qujappat, ultimately contributing to Swaile's defeat. After the mission, she resides at Jeremiah Gottwald's orange farm with Anya Alstreim.
Her relationships are defined by steadfast loyalty. She remains devoted to Lelouch throughout his schemes, including the Zero Requiem, respecting his leadership unconditionally. She shares a mutual respect with Jeremiah Gottwald, rooted in their shared dedication to Lelouch.
In spin-offs and other media, she appears in *Nunnally in Wonderland* as the Dodo Bird caring for Nunnally. In *Oz the Reflection*, the Glinda Knights arrest her after taking Nunnally into custody; she later spies on Schneizel's conference before being attacked by his soldiers.
