Description
Enma Daiou competes to become the next ruler of the Yo-kai World in "Yo-kai Watch: Forever Friends." He opposes the candidate Shien, who allies with the fox Yo-kai Tamamo no Mae to consume human souls for power. Their conflict drives the film's central narrative. To defeat Tamamo no Mae, Enma Daiou fuses with Shien, creating the new entity Yasha Enma, marking a significant development for the character.
His origins stem from earlier events. Enma Daiou forms through the fusion of a human spirit, Itsuki Takashiro, and the purified "Good Heart" of Shien. Itsuki, who died saving his sister, is temporarily reincarnated as a ghost by Yo-kai Kikuri-hime due to his heroism. After winning a contest held by the previous ruler, Ancient Enma, Itsuki merges with Shien's benevolent aspect to become Yasha Enma. This entity later separates, resulting in the child form known as Lord Enma. Shien's unresolved malice, the "Other Heart," separately becomes Lucas Schiffer, revealed as Enma Daiou's younger half-brother.
As the young king inheriting the title after Ancient Enma's death, Enma Daiou governs the present Yo-kai World. He exhibits a fascination with human society, frequently visiting in disguise to observe human-Yo-kai interactions. While generally curious and positive, he demonstrates decisive judgment, banishing Yo-kai to the Infinite Inferno for crimes, and shows intense rage when those close to him are threatened, sometimes awakening new powers, such as when believing his assistant Zazel has died.
Zazel serves as his assistant, initially harboring deep human distrust from his service to Ancient Enma. Enma Daiou eventually persuades Zazel to accept his vision of human-Yo-kai friendship after a significant conflict, making their relationship crucial to his rule. His connection to protagonist Nate develops through shared battles and missions. He initially forms a friendship contract with Nate for strategic reasons tied to the Enma Note's rules but later genuinely considers Nate a true friend.
