Description
Zashikiwarashi, also known as Tengu'ou Kurama, is a Shadowside Yo-kai belonging to the Omamori tribe. He manifests in two distinct forms: a Lightside form ranked C and a Godside form ranked S. His Lightside appearance presents as a young adult male with medium-length black hair tied by a pink ribbon. He wears a pink haori jacket featuring a pom-pom collar, a green obi, and purple hakama. This form reflects his origins as a traditional guardian spirit associated with bringing household prosperity. His Godside transformation, Tengu'ou Kurama, features long black hair, a red Tengu mask, a black eboshi cap, and yamabushi monk attire, wielding an aralia leaf fan.

Originally a protective house spirit in Japanese folklore, Zashikiwarashi shifted his focus from guardianship to an obsession with personal beauty, often gazing at his reflection; this change appears across media. In *Yo-kai Watch: Forever Friends*, set in 1960s Tokyo, he is one of three Keystone Yo-kai summoned by Alistair. His abilities include temporarily freezing female adversaries, proving pivotal in defeating the antagonist Tamamo no Mae and reclaiming human souls. Despite his efforts, he notably fails to impress Tae Arihoshi, a human girl capable of perceiving Yo-kai.

His role extends across the franchise. In *Yo-kai Watch 4*, players can obtain him via Key Quest 016 or the Crank-a-kai, finding him in Ark doors in the past and the Yo-kai World. His Tengu'ou Kurama form is unlocked through Treasure Photo 19, enabling this transformation as a Soultimate move. He also participates in battle missions like the Enma Tournament and PuraPura Blasters events. In mobile games such as *Yo-kai Watch: Wibble Wobble* (Puni Puni), his Lightside form is rank B (Heartful tribe), while his Godside form ranks SS (Brave tribe). He was featured as a random encounter during the *Forever Friends* event.

His folklore roots depict him as a child-like spirit inhabiting tatami rooms, known for pranks and bestowing fortune on households. The departure of a Zashikiwarashi was believed to cause a home's decline, reinforcing his symbolic link to familial prosperity. While distinct from the Yo-kai Gnomey, who shares the same mythological basis, Zashikiwarashi's modern iteration retains elements of this lore, such as his initial protector role, though his vanity-driven characterization represents a divergence.
