Makoto Tachiuri, nicknamed Uribo, is a spectral resident of Hananoyu Inn and the childhood companion of Mineko, the inn’s proprietor. Following Mineko’s relocation in their youth, he perished under unclear circumstances, binding his spirit to the establishment. Decades later, he crosses paths with Oriko "Okko" Seki, Mineko’s orphaned granddaughter, who arrives at the inn after her parents’ fatal accident.

Emerging initially as a mischievous specter, Makoto engages Okko through playful taunts during her raw grief, blending humor with a seasoned grasp of duty honed by his prolonged afterlife. He nudges Okko toward embracing her role as the inn’s junior caretaker, steering her through trials like managing unruly guests and resolving tensions among visitors. His presence fades as she processes her sorrow, yet he persists in guiding her toward confronting her parents’ culprits, ultimately nurturing her capacity to forgive and uphold the inn’s inclusive tradition.
