Description
Aleister Crowley, originally named Edward Alexander Crowley, is the founder and ruler of Academy City, commanding supreme authority over its Board of Directors from within the Windowless Building. He exists suspended upside down in a life-support tube filled with red liquid. His appearance is androgynous, blending masculine and feminine traits along with adult and childlike qualities, often manifesting with long white hair. Following a significant event, an alternate possibility of him emerged as a young girl with silver hair, pale skin, a pale blue double blazer, a black cloak, and a witch-like hat.

Crowley endured a difficult childhood under strict Christian parents who dismissed his skepticism. Sent to a boarding school where he faced persecution, he developed contempt for religious hypocrisy and the concept of God, leading him to seek truth through magic. As a young adult, he joined the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn under Samuel Liddell MacGregor Mathers. There, his mentor Allan Bennett taught him Spiritual Tripping and revealed the true power of the Blasting Rod. A prophecy from Bennett foretold that collisions between magical phases would ensure his future daughter would die young. The Golden Dawn prioritized its goals over this consequence, prompting Crowley to destroy the cabal. After killing Bennett, who willingly sacrificed himself, Crowley instigated the Battle of Blythe Road and stole the organization's treasures, including an arrow-shaped spiritual item housing Imagine Breaker.

When his daughter Lilith died as prophesied, Crowley resolved to eradicate magic, concluding that it perpetuated tragedy by distorting reality through layered phases. He faked his death in 1947, allied with the physician Heaven Canceller, and founded Academy City as a scientific stronghold opposing mysticism. As its ruler, he orchestrated experiments including the Level 6 Shift Project involving the mass production and slaughter of Misaka Mikoto's clones. He manipulated protagonists like Kamijou Touma, Accelerator, and Shiage Hamazura as tools to destabilize magical systems.

Crowley exhibits a cold, pragmatic demeanor, prioritizing efficiency over morality, though beneath this lies insecurity from a curse of inevitable failure inflicted by Mathers. His abilities blend magic and science: Spiritual Tripping creates illusion-based attacks that bypass physical defenses; the Blasting Rod exponentially amplifies offensive magic; Archetype Controller manipulates societal frameworks; Splash absorbs sparks of fate to shield others; and Blood Sacrifice converts conflict into magical energy. After the demon Coronzon possessed his daughter Laura Stuart, Crowley engaged in a multidimensional conflict that led to his consciousness being erased. He later resurfaced in alternate forms, including the silver-haired girl. He relinquished control of Academy City to Accelerator, believing the latter could foster a more humane future, and allied with former adversaries to confront new threats. His philosophy centers on freeing humanity from magical influence, valuing individual will above all, with his final goal of dismantling all phases of reality to reunite with Lilith in a world without magic.
