Description
Awaki Musujime is a student at Kirigaoka Girls' Academy, a prestigious school in Academy City, where she is a second-year student. She is a Level 4 esper, classified as a Great Power, with a space-moving ability known as Coordinate Relocation or Move Point. Her appearance is distinctive, characterized by long red hair tied into two sections at the back and a notably revealing outfit that typically consists of a pink cloth wrapped around her chest, a blazer, a metal-belted miniskirt, and thigh-high stockings. She is approximately 162 to 164 centimeters tall.

Within the hidden structure of Academy City, Awaki serves a specific function as the guide to the Windowless Building, the fortress-like residence of the board chairman, Aleister Crowley. In this role, she uses her teleportation abilities to transport key individuals, such as Stiyl Magnus and Motoharu Tsuchimikado, into the building, which grants her access to sensitive information about the city's leadership.

Awaki's personality is complex and shaped significantly by her past. On the surface, she can be ruthless, cold, and seems to enjoy causing her opponents to suffer, as seen during her initial confrontations with Shirai Kuroko. She typically prefers not to kill but will not hesitate to take a life if the situation demands it. However, this harsh exterior masks deep-seated insecurities and trauma. A defining event in her life was a teleportation accident two years prior to the main story. A miscalculation in her coordinates caused her foot to become lodged inside a solid wall. In her panic, she forcibly pulled it out, resulting in a severe injury that left her with lasting psychological scars. This trauma made it extremely difficult for her to teleport herself, as the act would trigger intense mental and physical duress, causing her to vomit or collapse from the strain. This limitation is the primary reason she is a Level 4 rather than a Level 5, despite possessing power that rivals or even exceeds that of other teleporters.

Awaki's primary motivations are driven by a search for meaning and a deep sense of loyalty to her peers. Following her accident, she began questioning the purpose of her own power, wondering why she was given the ability to harm others. This existential crisis led her to become a central figure in the Remnant incident. She and a group of like-minded friends conspired to recover the remnants of the destroyed Tree Diagram supercomputer, hoping to use it to answer a philosophical question: whether esper powers are unique to humans or could be developed by other intelligent beings. Her defeat in this incident led to her friends being imprisoned, and she was effectively coerced into working for the city's dark side as a member of the secret organization Group to ensure their safety. This desire to protect her comrades becomes a powerful motivator for her subsequent actions.

Her role in the story of A Certain Magical Index II is primarily as an antagonist in the Remnant arc. She comes into direct conflict with Shirai Kuroko and Misaka Mikoto as she attempts to steal a fragment of Tree Diagram. Her ability, Move Point, proves to be a formidable challenge; unlike Kuroko's standard Teleport, which requires her to touch what she moves, Awaki can relocate objects and people she is not in contact with, can target multiple things simultaneously, and can move objects weighing up to 4500 kilograms as far as 800 meters. She uses a military-grade flashlight as a focusing tool to set a reference point for her power. Her confrontation with Kuroko is particularly significant, as Kuroko's words force Awaki to confront her own self-deception. Kuroko rejects Awaki's claim that her powers force her to hurt people, accusing her instead of blaming her power to avoid taking responsibility for her own cruelty. This psychological shock causes Awaki's ability to go out of control, leading to her defeat at the hands of Accelerator, which in turn creates a new trauma for her.

Key relationships define her development. Her bond with her imprisoned friends is the driving force behind her coerced service in Group. Her interactions with her teammates, including Accelerator and Tsuchimikado, are marked by a cynical camaraderie; she once called them "lolicons" for their attachments to young girls, only to be branded a "shotacon" in return for her own very evident fondness for young boys, a trait that becomes a recurring comedic element. She lives under the care of the teacher Komoe Tsukuyomi, and this experience begins to soften her, as she appreciates the kindness shown to her. After being defeated and left unconscious, it is Kamijou Touma who calls for an ambulance, an act for which she later feels a sense of gratitude.

Awaki undergoes significant development, primarily centered on overcoming her trauma. While initially reliant on a special low-frequency vibration machine attached to her neck to stabilize her mental state and use her powers without collapsing, she eventually conquers her fear. During a battle with the organization Block, she tears off the device and forces herself to teleport, even when her leg partially materializes inside the ground just as in the accident that traumatized her. This act of willpower allows her to overcome her psychological block completely, granting her the ability to teleport herself freely. In this state, her effective power reaches the practical level of a Level 5, demonstrating feats such as teleporting Accelerator directly into an underground space eighty meters away without even needing to see the destination, relying only on distance and direction. By the end of the Third World War, with her friends finally freed, she is left to find a new purpose for herself, free from the coercion that had long defined her existence.

Her notable ability, Move Point, is a high-level space-moving power with several unique properties. Unlike standard teleportation that typically requires a fixed starting point and contact with the target, Move Point allows the user to relocate objects without touching them and can affect multiple targets at once. This gives her a tremendous tactical advantage in combat. After fully overcoming her trauma, she can also teleport herself without difficulty, granting her immense mobility. The primary limitation of her power is the complex mathematical calculations required, which can be disrupted by AIM jammers or intense psychological stress. Once her mental block was removed, her precision and range made her one of the most powerful teleporters in Academy City.
