Description
Yuto Goryo hails from a prestigious Hakodate family; his father is a university professor, his older brothers are doctors and lawyers. Expected to follow suit, he instead developed an inferiority complex towards his siblings and rebelled, leaving home during high school to forge his own identity through music.
In high school, he formed a band with Nayuta Asahi, Kenta Satozuka, and Reon Misono. This group fractured due to Nayuta's dictatorial attitude and clashing values, culminating in Nayuta demanding Yuto's removal. The experience left Yuto bearing a long-standing grudge against Nayuta. At university, seeking the collaborative environment his previous band lacked, he co-founded Argonavis with Wataru Matoba. Yuto serves as the band's guitarist and enthusiastic, optimistic leader, championing the motto "you won't know unless you try." Privately, however, he battles significant self-doubt about his guitar skills, an insecurity that once nearly drove him to quit Argonavis, fearing he'd hold them back.
Yuto presents a friendly, approachable demeanor, especially around children, and immediately used first names with all Argonavis members. He possesses a strong interest in fashion, often assisting bandmate Ren Nanahoshi with clothing choices due to Ren's poor sense of style. Academically capable despite self-deprecation about studying, he consistently earns high grades studying literature. Later, he and his bandmates transfer to Kamogawa Music College to compete in the Live Royal Festival, a nationwide band competition offering international exposure.
His development includes gradually rekindling a friendly rivalry with former bandmate Reon Misono, acknowledging their differing musical philosophies while maintaining mutual respect. He also confronts his grudge against Nayuta, initially refusing to open for GYROAXIA's show but eventually moving past the hostility. Yuto's name, meaning "tie/bind people," reflects his role in uniting Argonavis. His kindness remains a defining trait, noted by characters like Reon and Kazuki Furusawa. His journey centers on proving his self-worth beyond familial expectations and protecting the band's unity.
