OVA
Description
Chōun Shiryū, also known privately as Sei and by the alter ego Butterfly Mask, is a skilled warrior who first serves under Kousonsan, wielding a spear with notable expertise. Her early notoriety comes from a solo engagement against a large Yellow Turban force, an act some view as reckless. This display of capability results in a pivotal rescue by Kan'u and facilitates her first meeting with Kazuto Hongo, whom she immediately favors. She promises to join his forces if she cannot find a superior master and later formally aligns with the Shoku faction after the battle against Enshou.

Before committing to any cause, she traveled to see the world personally. Across different narrative routes, such as the Gi route, she appears intermittently, sometimes saving Kazuto from dangers like bandits before departing again. She eventually joins the Shoku faction after Kousonsan's forces are defeated by the En army.

Her personality is calm and collected yet also playful, mischievous, and frequently flirtatious. She often teases other characters, particularly Kan'u and Ryūbi, with perverse or sexually suggestive remarks delivered with a straight face. She possesses a strong obsession with the food item menma, consuming it directly from the jar and reacting with cold, terrifying anger if it is touched without permission. This eccentricity extends to a chuunibyou-like tendency where she adopts the secret identity of the masked hero Butterfly Mask, performing stylized speeches and poses. Despite the disguise consisting only of a mask added to her usual attire and employing the same weapon and fighting style, most characters cannot recognize her, though Kazuto and Koumei see through it easily.

Her relationship with Kazuto develops romantically. Initially, her understanding of sexual matters is skewed from spying on soldiers, leading to a mistaken belief that "pillow games" were literal pillow fights. This results in a naive first encounter with Kazuto, after which she quickly becomes more knowledgeable and open, eventually becoming pregnant with his child.

As Butterfly Mask, she performs acts of heroism, such as saving Ryūbi from bandits using a technique that creates afterimages to confuse opponents. This act causes Ryūbi to develop a strong admiration for the masked heroine, an admiration Chōun finds flattering when Ryūbi unknowingly praises her alter ego to her face. In this identity, she also attempts to recruit the Chou sisters with dramatic speeches, though they ignore her.

In combat, she is a highly capable general and fighter. Her primary skill is spearmanship, specializing in rapid, precise stabbing attacks that emphasize speed and agility over brute force, often described as a graceful dance. She demonstrates proficiency in hand-to-hand combat, acrobatics, marksmanship by accurately throwing her masks, horsemanship, and possesses enhanced strength, speed, and reflexes. She is also recognized for her strategic intellect and leadership, capable of commanding troops with a proficiency compared to a modern commando unit. However, she lacks raw physical power compared to some other generals.

Significant character interactions include a close partnership with Kan'u on the battlefield and a playful rivalry where she frequently teases Kan'u about her body. In one instance, she successfully arouses Kan'u while they hid together in a confined space. She also admits to unspecified actions with Bachou's body during a night they spent together. Her flirtatious behavior extends to questioning the relationship dynamics between other characters, such as asking Kan'u and Chouhi who is the seme and uke in their relationship.

Across various media, including OVAs, her eccentricities are often highlighted. In one OVA, she participates in a swimming event as Butterfly Mask, and when her identity is nearly exposed by Kouchuu, she ties her up and locks her away. In another, she transforms her alter ego in an Ultraman-style giant transformation. Her disturbing smile is occasionally implied to be terrifying enough to cause nightmares, with scenes sometimes censoring her face or showing reactions of horror from other characters.
