Anna Kushina is a Strain with supernatural abilities who serves as the Red King of the HOMRA organization. She has long white hair, red eyes, and stands 140 cm tall, with the HOMRA insignia embedded in her left eye. A unique color blindness restricts her vision almost entirely to grayscale, except for the vivid perception of red. This anomaly lets her clearly see Mikoto Suoh’s potent red aura. Her sight temporarily broadens to other colors only when utilizing her red marbles as catalysts.
Orphaned after her parents died in an accident, Anna lived under her aunt Honami Kushina’s care. During this period, she rarely spoke and wore blue dresses—a hue invisible to her. Honami frequently brought Anna to Bar HOMRA, where the girl grew fascinated by Mikoto Suoh’s intense aura, though he initially dismissed her. Her past includes torture by the Gold clansman Mizuchi, who forced painful experiments at Nanakamado Chemotherapy Research Center to synchronize her with the Dresden Slate and make her the Blue King. Mizuchi burned, choked, and near-drowned her, insisting pain amplified her powers. HOMRA rescued Anna, erasing Honami’s memories of her in the process. Mikoto and HOMRA subsequently adopted her.
Her integration into HOMRA spurred emotional growth. Once withdrawn and doll-like, she feared expressing emotions might harm others. Tatara Totsuka encouraged her, suggesting smiling magnifies happiness while crying eases sadness. Clan interactions slowly rekindled her emotional responses, though she remained quiet and observant in group settings. Her abilities include clairvoyance, mind-reading, and locating targets via red marbles. She participates actively in clan affairs, informing Mikoto of internal conflicts and joining missions like confronting Rakshasa drug dealers. Her compassion extends even to a Strain horse named Basashi, whom she shielded from mistreatment.
After Mikoto Suoh’s death, Anna ascends as Red King, inheriting his responsibilities. She resents the Blue King, Reisi Munakata, for killing Mikoto—despite acknowledging it prevented a catastrophic Damocles Down. Conversely, she trusts the Silver King, despite his role in events leading to Mikoto’s demise. On her birthday shortly after Totsuka’s death, Mikoto gifts her a red rose. Battling grief but honoring Totsuka’s teachings on emotional expression, she offers a faint smile, vowing to mourn with warmth while containing sorrow.
The spin-off "The Idol K" reimagines Anna in an alternate universe where kings manage idol agencies.
