Description
Sturm is a 130-centimeter tall Draph with dark red hair cut to neck length and brown eyes. Years spent forging her path as a mercenary through the use of steel led to her current journey sailing the skies. This occupation defines her pragmatic approach; she accepts any paying job regardless of moral implications, earning notoriety in less scrupulous circles for meeting client expectations precisely. Her personal code emphasizes dispassionate calculation, though she reacts strongly if this code is violated.

Initially an operative for the Erste Empire, Sturm is tasked with hunting Lyria alongside her partner Drang. Their partnership, established after first meeting as opponents during a revolution, evolved into the duo "The Maelstroms of Discord." Their dynamic juxtaposes Sturm’s serious, deadpan demeanor and fire-aligned swordsmanship with Drang’s expressive personality and water-based magic. This contrast extends to their operational style: Sturm engages directly in physical combat while Drang handles strategy and diplomacy. Sturm often jabs Drang with her sheathed sword in response to his provocations, particularly when he highlights her hidden kindness.

Sturm’s loyalty undergoes significant development. While initially serving the Empire as hired mercenaries, their true allegiance lies with the Black Knight, stemming from their first encounter with her during her idealistic youth. Over time, this professional relationship deepened into genuine fondness and undying loyalty, though they maintain formal mercenary status due to societal constraints against non-knights serving as aides. This loyalty indirectly shifts their alignment; as the Black Knight’s antagonism toward the protagonists fades, Sturm and Drang transition into friendly enemies and eventual allies of the Grandcypher crew, assisting them periodically despite previous conflicts.

Her character receives focused exploration in the event "Sturm and Drang: A Mercenary’s Life." They navigate challenges like protecting a merchant’s cargo, only to discard it upon discovering it attracts monsters—a decision justified by their contract’s exact wording protecting the merchant but not the goods. Later, they participate in a staged rebellion against Erste, intentionally losing to the Grandcypher crew as part of a Failure Gambit. This engineered defeat resolves local grievances quickly but damages their professional reputation, serving the dual purpose of avoiding an unwanted promotion for Sturm and allowing another mercenary to take their place in the guild hierarchy. These events underscore her adherence to a personal ethic beyond mere mercenary pragmatism.

Outside combat and contracts, Sturm prefers training, meditation, and consuming meat-heavy meals. She avoids social interactions, expressing distaste for loud or overly friendly individuals. Despite her outward sternness, subtle hints suggest a capacity for kindness that she masks behind a calculated exterior.
