Movie
Description
Shinzo Hattori, the younger brother of Kanzo Hattori, lives permanently with his family: father Jinchu Hattori, mother Mrs. Hattori, and brother Kanzo. He also shares close bonds with his foster caregivers, the Mitsuba family: Kenichi Mitsuba (foster brother), Taeko Mitsuba (foster mother), and Kentaro Mitsuba (foster father). His constant companion is the ninja dog Shishimaru.
Shinzo possesses a plump build, fair skin, and distinctive oval-shaped black eyes with circles on his cheeks. He typically wears red ninja robes secured by a white belt and carries a wooden sword on his back.
His personality blends loyalty and mischievousness. He often tricks his older brother Kanzo into giving him desired items and is known for loud, disruptive crying, which he sometimes uses tactically to immobilize opponents or cause disturbances. Despite this, he deeply admires Kanzo as a role model and generally follows his guidance, though they occasionally argue before reconciling. Fundamentally good-hearted and compassionate, Shinzo has a sanguine, happy-go-lucky nature that helps him make friends. He strongly dislikes interruptions during conversations. Over time, he evolves from limited proficiency into a more determined and capable trainee ninja, showing resilience and commitment to becoming stronger.
His relationships are multifaceted. He shares an inseparable, playful bond with Shishimaru. His dynamic with Kenichi Mitsuba is complex; Kenichi sometimes mistreats him but also relies on him for help, occasionally leading to trouble. Yumeko Kawai is another close friend who often gives him treats like cakes. Shinzo harbors strong animosity towards the rival ninja Kemumaki, whom he despises alongside Kanzo, though Kemumaki once taught him water-walking. He similarly dislikes Kemumaki's cat, Kagechiyo, though they intermittently collaborate out of necessity. The Mitsuba family treats him with familial affection.
Shinzo's abilities focus on foundational ninja skills. He uses standard weaponry like swords and shuriken, initially wooden and easily breakable, later advancing to durable steel versions. His crying serves as an unconventional tactical asset, capable of disorienting foes, though he sometimes misapplies it. While not matching Kanzo's expertise, he displays competence in dueling, holding his own against opponents like Kemumaki. He masters specific techniques including smokebombs, walking on water, and flying. His signature catchphrase, "Gili-gili-gili," is frequently used during activities or confrontations. A key aspect of his development is unwavering willpower; he persistently seeks improvement and readily seeks Kanzo's guidance when challenged.
