Description
Abuto is the vice-captain of the Harusame space pirates’ Seventh Division, serving directly under Captain Kamui. He is a member of the Yato clan, a species known for immense physical strength, speed, durability, and rapid regeneration. Standing 186 centimeters tall and weighing 82 kilograms, he has a tall, robust build with ash-brown hair. He lost his left arm in a conflict and now uses a prosthetic. His primary weapon is a modified umbrella, used defensively as a shield and offensively in close combat. Like all Yato, extended exposure to sunlight weakens him. Unlike many of his battle-hungry kin, Abuto has a notably calm, rational, and laid-back personality. He treasures other Yato and strongly dislikes fighting against his own kind, viewing internal strife as pointless. He believes that choices demand full accountability and that one must stand by their own decisions. Despite being a formidable fighter, he is capable of mercy, especially toward younger people, and has a humorous side with a fondness for playing Nintendo video games. Abuto is defined by his deep loyalty to Kamui, acting as his right-hand man, advisor, and a stabilizing force against Kamui’s violent impulses. He has known Kamui since childhood on the planet Rakuyo. He lost his left arm while shielding Kamui from a strike by the Yato elder Housen. He also has a notable connection to Kagura, Kamui’s younger sister: during their battle, he hesitated to kill her and later saved both her and Shinpachi Shimura from a lethal fall. His narrative spans several major conflicts, including the Yoshiwara in Flames arc, the Shogun Assassination arc, the Rakuyou arc, and the Silver Soul arc. In the spin-off series Gintama: Mr. Ginpachi's Zany Class, he appears as a perpetual repeater student at the rival Metropolitan Yato Industrial High School, still serving as Kamui’s right-hand man. The creator originally planned for Abuto to die in the Yoshiwara arc but became attached to the character and kept him alive.
