Description
Oshaki is a light blue chipmunk-like Cocotama, a small magical spirit born from cherished human objects. She originated from an encyclopedia belonging to Koichi Yotsuba, earning her the title "The Book God." Her full ceremonial name is "Shaki-Shaki Talkable Master-no-Mikoto." Like all Cocotamas, she wears eggshell underpants marked with a distinctive yellow lightbulb symbol signifying her identity and role.
Oshaki speaks with measured grace and approaches her duties seriously. She possesses boundless knowledge, likely stemming from her encyclopedia origin, and often acts as the voice of reason. Her meticulous, rule-oriented personality leads her to frequently correct or guide other Cocotamas when their actions become chaotic or stray from established norms, serving as a grounding force within the group.
Her abilities include casting spells with the phrase "Cocon Poipoi Cocottama!" Oshaki demonstrates leadership during critical group efforts, such as collaborating with Luckytama, Melory, and Geracho in Episode 6 to combine their magic and navigate back to Kokoro. This highlights her willingness to contribute collectively despite her formal nature.
A key aspect of her role involves mediating conflicts. In Episode 108, she intervened in a dispute between Geracho (representing television) and Niche (representing books) over their mediums' superiority. To resolve this, Oshaki orchestrated an experiment where they swapped roles: Geracho engaged with books and Niche explored television. Though the plan inadvertently escalated tensions due to their extreme enthusiasm, her initiative underscored her commitment to harmony and problem-solving.
Beyond conflict resolution, Oshaki vigilantly guards the Cocotamas' secrecy. She emphasizes the gravity of the "Cocotama Contract," binding humans to eternal secrecy about the spirits' existence. Violation results in the Cocotama returning to their object and the human forgetting all memories – a rule she treats with utmost seriousness given its irreversible consequences.
While her primary focus reinforces order and knowledge-sharing, she occasionally joins lighter group activities like seasonal celebrations. However, her core role centers on upholding structure, discipline, and intellectual integrity within the Cocotama community.
