Description
Sakurai is an esper and former member of the Claw organization, specifically part of its elite Scars division. A vertical scar runs from his jaw up his left cheek, and he typically dresses in a plain black suit with glasses. Abandoned at birth, he grew up in an orphanage where relentless bullying drove him to rely on psychic curses for survival, cementing his dependence on these abilities.

His demeanor is stern, focused, and cautious, often leading him to reprimand fellow Claw members like Koyama for perceived errors. During the 7th Division Arc, Sakurai captures children from the Awakening Lab and delivers them to Claw’s facility. He confronts Teruki Hanazawa alongside Muraki to defeat him but avoids direct conflict with Shigeo Kageyama, becoming one of the last Scars standing. He attacks Reigen Arataka with his Jugan Sword, unnerved when it only slices Reigen’s suit. After his plastic sword snaps and subsequent curses fail, Sakurai loses composure, seizing Reigen and ranting about societal failures before Reigen’s rebuttal mentally overpowers him.

Following the 7th Division’s disbandment, Sakurai defects from Claw with other former Scars. Weeks later, he and Koyama retrieve Shigeo Kageyama by car, assuring him of their peaceful intent. When Kageyama levitates their vehicle to bypass traffic, Sakurai pragmatically notes the tactical advantage for evading pursuers. He later allies with Reigen’s group against Claw’s headquarters, explaining the organization targets defectors as traitors. In a strategy meeting, he predicts Claw’s leader will publicly flaunt his power first and advises involving police, citing the group’s immaturity due to members' lack of social exposure.

During the World Domination Arc, Sakurai battles alongside allies against Shimazaki, a top Claw esper, grazing his face with a Jugan Air Gun bullet. After Shimazaki’s defeat, he lends his Air Gun to Reigen to aid Kageyama. When Kageyama’s ???% mode triggers chaos, Sakurai and Koyama attempt to shield a Smile Mart store but retreat upon recognizing the destruction’s source and the arrival of Claw’s leader.

Sakurai’s primary ability, Jugan (Curse Toys), lets him place psychic curses on objects to enhance their properties. His signature tools include a cursed plastic sword that cuts nearly anything, an Air Gun firing psychically charged rounds, and a Cursed Chamber draining psychic powers within a room. He also uses cursed cologne to induce sleep, bypassing psychic barriers. After leaving Claw, he applies his powers to oden tongs at Smile Mart—one pair subdues unruly customers, while another serves food.
