Description
Tazuna Takatsuki, a high school student skilled in mechanics, possesses an intense focus when repairing objects. His life shifts dramatically upon encountering Koyori Akutagawa, a comatose girl whose resemblance to his deceased younger sister, Musubu, deeply affects him. Touching Koyori's hand awakens her and transforms Tazuna into a Hand Shaker, thrusting him into the battle dimension of Ziggurat. Partnering with Koyori as "Single Gear" (Team Gear), Tazuna's drive stems from Koyori's likeness to Musubu and the revelation that Koyori survived due to organ transplants from her. Koyori's life force depends on maintaining physical contact with Tazuna, compelling him to protect her constantly, especially as she initially lacks combat abilities.

In Ziggurat, Tazuna manifests a psychic weapon, a Nimrod, enabling him to materialize and manipulate gears. These gears form constructs like a large broadsword for combat and mobility or a gauntlet for direct attacks. His powers activate only while holding Koyori's hand, requiring their strategic cooperation in fights against other Hand Shaker teams. Koyori later awakens her own Nimrod, earning the codename "Sprocket Gear," though their physical connection remains vital for her survival.

Ten years later, Tazuna undergoes significant physical growth, increasing in height from 161 cm to 175 cm while retaining similar facial features. He travels globally searching for Koyori's missing twin sister, Mayumi Akutagawa, and Mayumi's Hand Shaker partner, Nagaoka. This quest follows their encounter with a deity in Ziggurat, where their granted wish resulted in Mayumi and Nagaoka's disappearance. During this period, Koyori works as a researcher at Kita Asuka Academy but loses her ability to use Nimrods. Tazuna maintains his relationship with Koyori and interacts with new characters, including Yukiya Araki, an irregular Hand Shaker whose existence is linked to the earlier events involving Mayumi and Nagaoka.

In alternative media interpretations, Tazuna is depicted as "Kamen Rider Jury Rigg," utilizing his mechanical aptitude to disassemble, modify, or construct technology rapidly. This form grants enhanced strength and intuitive understanding of machinery, existing separately from the main anime continuity.
