Description
Toshio Kotegawa presides over Grand Blue, a diving shop doubling as his home and headquarters for the Peek-a-Boo diving club. Mirroring Iori Kitahara in height and build, he sports short white hair, a sun-kissed tan, and an ever-present grin that underscores his relaxed disposition. His cheerful tolerance of the club’s raucous antics and partying habits cements his reputation as an unfazed, easygoing anchor amid the chaos.

Legally Iori’s uncle, Toshio initially houses his nephew on Grand Blue’s second floor until a clash involving Shinji Tokita, Ryūjirō Kotobuki, and Kouhei Imamura incites Chisa Kotegawa’s fury, prompting Iori’s departure. Toshio navigates strained dynamics with his daughters, Nanaka and Chisa, while his wife’s overseas career leaves their marital ties undefined.

The kanji in his name—symbolizing “rise,” “purpose,” and “man”—paired with the surname Kotegawa (“old hand river”) evoke ties to tradition and natural elements. As Grand Blue’s steward, he balances familial obligations with fostering a communal hub where diving enthusiasts gather, his presence quietly shaping the club’s escapades without overshadowing their spirited independence.
