Description
Chisa Kotegawa is a first-year Mechanical Engineering student at Izu University and an active member of the Peek a Boo diving club, which operates from her family's Grand Blue diving shop. She is the younger sister of Nanaka Kotegawa and cousin of Iori Kitahara, though they share no biological relation due to Iori's father being adopted into the family. Her parents are Toshio Kotegawa, Grand Blue's owner, and Sayaka Kotegawa, who manages their Dolphin's branch in Palau.
Chisa has brown hair, brown eyes, and an average build, with her physique—particularly her posterior—drawing commentary from others. Among female peers, she has the second smallest bust size but shows less concern about this than her friend Aina Yoshiwara. Her personality balances level-headed seriousness and academic focus against the chaotic drunkenness of other Peek a Boo members, avoiding alcohol due to extreme sensitivity.
Her defining passion is scuba diving; she aspires to be a diving instructor and seeks friendships with fellow enthusiasts, even curating ocean sounds in her music. This passion drives her bond with Iori Kitahara, whom she introduces to diving despite their turbulent reunion. A long-standing rift with her mother Sayaka stems from career-related misunderstandings and Chisa’s belief that Sayaka ignored her during a critical conversation—later revealed to result from Sayaka’s undisclosed partial deafness. The conflict resolves when Iori clarifies the misunderstanding, leading Sayaka to gift Chisa underwater earphones as approval.
Chisa shares a close relationship with her sister Nanaka, unaware of Nanaka’s sister complex. Her Peek a Boo friendships include Aina Yoshiwara—initially blind to Aina’s envy—and senior Azusa Hamaoka, who often remarks on her cuteness. At university, male classmates idolize her due to engineering’s gender imbalance, but she rejects romantic advances. To deter suitors, she labels Iori her "fake" boyfriend, a tactic reused in social scenarios.
Despite disavowing romance, her dynamic with Iori evolves from hostility after their drunken first reunion into camaraderie through shared diving, problem-solving, and reliance. She guards their fabricated relationship, confronting rivals like Sakurako Busujima. After an accidental hypnotism incident transfers her ocean love to Iori, she feigns lingering effects to justify physical closeness—leaning on his shoulder with fading discomfort—which internally unsettles her. Moments of vulnerability surface, like tearfully thanking him for mending her mother rift or expressing joy at his presence. She internally debates potential romantic feelings, dismissing them yet reacting negatively to Iori’s involvement with others.
Her traits include a sweet tooth and formidable stubbornness—once decided, she rarely changes her stance. She displays sudden physical aggression, often targeting Iori over perceived perversion. Her journey navigates complex family ties, reconciles diving passion with parental expectations, and confronts ambiguous emotions toward her cousin.
