Description
Ashibe Ashiya, a Japanese elementary school boy introduced in the 1988 Weekly Young Jump manga, discovers and adopts a baby spotted seal named Goma-chan, sparking their daily adventures. His cheerful, optimistic nature manifests in loud exclamations of "Peace!" accompanied by peace hand signs, especially when greeting others or feeling excited. To counter jealousy from peers like Sakata and his older brother, Ashibe employs the unique "Brotherly Love Hold," a technique taught by his friend Sugao that disarms opponents by inducing happiness.

His impulsive carpenter father initially helps hide Goma-chan from Ashibe's mother, who possesses a serious demeanor but eventually accepts the seal and occasionally plays pranks on him. The narrative follows Ashibe across multiple sequels: depicted as a second-grade student in *ComaGoma* (2000–2004), a third grader in *Shō 3 Ashibe QQ Goma-chan* (2020–present), and a high school freshman alongside Sugao in *Seishōnen Ashibe* (2017–2024).

Throughout these stories, from elementary school into his teens, Ashibe consistently navigates everyday life with Goma-chan. He interacts with family, friends, and neighbors in comedic, slice-of-life scenarios, maintaining his foundational traits of optimism and energetic engagement.
