Chika Sakamoto is a veteran Japanese voice actor, or seiyuu, born in Tokyo on August 17, 1959. Her real name is Chika Ishihara. She began her career in 1981 and is affiliated with the talent agency ARTSVISION. Sakamoto is widely recognized for her distinctive, energetic voice, which she has lent to a vast array of anime characters, particularly young boys, girls, and non-human creatures.

Sakamoto's desire to become a performer began in her youth. After being inspired by a stage performance, she enrolled in a training school and subsequently joined the Tokyo Actor's Consumer's Cooperative Society (Haikyo) to pursue voice acting. Her debut role was in the 1981 television anime Dash Kappei, and she secured her first leading role the following year in Fuku-chan. In 1984, she moved to her current agency, ARTSVISION.

Throughout her decades-long career, Sakamoto has portrayed some of the most beloved characters in Japanese animation. One of her most iconic and enduring roles is that of Agumon, the core Digimon partner in the immensely popular Digimon Adventure franchise. She has voiced the character across numerous television series, films, and video games for over twenty years, including in Digimon Adventure: (2020), Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna, and Digimon Adventure tri.. Another landmark role is Mei Kusakabe, the young and spirited protagonist in Hayao Miyazaki's classic Studio Ghibli film, My Neighbor Totoro (1988).

Her filmography is exceptionally broad. She has been a regular presence in the long-running children's series Soreike! Anpanman, voicing multiple characters such as Tendonman and Chibi-Zou-kun. She has taken on leading roles in series like Mukamuka Paradise as the titular Muka Muka and Shōnen Ashibe as Ashibe. Sakamoto has also played key roles in major franchises, including Ai Kisugi in Cat's Eye, Nuriko in Fushigi Yūgi, Yaten Kou in Sailor Moon Sailor Stars, and Kaoruko Hanasaki / Cure Flower in Heartcatch Precure!. Her talent extends to dubbing foreign films and series, where she has provided the Japanese voice for characters such as Angelica Pickles in Rugrats and D.J. Tanner in Full House.

Beyond acting, Sakamoto has also been active as a singer, performing theme songs for several series, including Here Is Greenwood and Fushigi Yūgi. She was a member of the singing group GALLOP with fellow voice actors Kazue Ikura and Tomochika Seo. In addition to her performance work, Sakamoto is dedicated to nurturing new talent as an instructor at the Japan Narrator Acting Institute, the training school affiliated with ARTSVISION.
