TV-Series
Description
Hajime is the younger brother of Bakabon, born significantly later than expected because loud noises or chaos caused his mother's labor to reverse, delaying his arrival. His mother named him Hajime, meaning "beginning." Physically, he is a small child with short chestnut brown hair featuring a single spiral cowlick, shiny black eyes, and rosy spiral marks on his cheeks. He typically wears a shirt with one button, sometimes without pants or shoes.

Hajime displays extraordinary intellect since infancy, understanding words immediately after birth and rapidly developing advanced cognitive abilities. He explains complex concepts like the Pythagorean theorem and Kepler's laws of planetary motion, speaks and teaches English, repairs machines, and invents items. Despite this genius, he finds physical activities like sports challenging due to his age and size. Generally gentle and easy-going, he becomes frustrated if underestimated or perceived as quiet or unintelligent. His love for his family drives him to assist them, though his intellect sometimes makes him a target for kidnapping.

Within his family, Hajime serves as an intellectual foil to his father and Bakabon. His sensible nature contrasts with their antics, and he occasionally resolves problems through logical solutions or wise explanations, fulfilling the "genius" role that juxtaposes their foolishness.

Across adaptations, Hajime's capabilities evolve. In earlier series, he appears primarily as an infant in a yellow onesie, unable to walk. Later adaptations depict him as a toddler wearing a yellow shirt with green overalls or shorts, gaining mobility and taking on more active roles. By "Rerere no Tensai Bakabon," he is recognized as one of the world's smartest individuals, proficient with a personal computer. His speech also becomes notably more polite in the Heisei-era adaptation compared to other children. Hajime appears in various spin-offs and crossovers, including educational materials where he explains scientific concepts, and live-action specials where he demonstrates advanced skills like operating a 3D printer.
