Rentarō Kusunoki is a student of Tōtsuki Culinary Academy's 91st Generation. He sports long orange hair pulled back by a black hairband, sharp eyebrows, red eyes, and a goth-inspired aesthetic. His attire consists of a vermilion chef’s jacket, half-unbuttoned and bearing black cross patterns on the collar and buttons, worn over a black T-shirt. He rolls his pants above the ankles and pairs them with brown shoes. A tattoo lies beneath his left eye and another on his right wrist, along with a pierced right eyebrow and a chain earring on his left ear that extends to his collarbone, tipped with a large black cross. Rentarō exhibits high confidence in his culinary abilities and pride in his selection for Central. Arrogant and provocative, he frequently mocks opponents during food wars and speaks condescendingly to underclassmen, earning a reputation as despicable. This arrogance may conceal an underlying inferiority complex, revealed in moments of cowardice and intimidation following Shokugeki defeats. He is easily angered by disrespect from juniors but channels his temper into focused cooking, where he regains composure quickly. He completed the Tōtsuki Friendship and Rapport Training Camp and the Stagiaire in his first year. As a showcased member of Central under the Azami administration, he remained with the group until its dissolution after the Rebel Alliance's victory in the Régiment de Cuisine. Rentarō specializes in heating techniques, excelling in low-temperature cooking and demonstrating extensive knowledge of advanced equipment such as immersion circulators and steam convection ovens. His command of precise thermal control defines his culinary approach. One of his signature dishes, Saumon Confit Flamme, was prepared in a Shokugeki against Ryō Kurokiba. Utilizing a steam convection oven and cryogenic grinder, he crafted a meticulously controlled salmon confit. During this official Shokugeki, where the theme was salmon, Rentarō’s loss resulted in the preservation of the Cutting-Edge Cooking Research Society. Although his official record stands at 0-1-0, he achieved multiple victories during Central’s Survivor’s Purge, indicating a more extensive history of wins.
