Description
Adele is a witch and Western yōkai serving as a female shōgun, a high-ranking commander in Backbeard's army. She possesses fair skin, long white hair partially braided and secured by a purple clip, and striking eyes with red irises, purple pupils, and yellow centers. Her attire consists of a dark green suit trimmed in yellow, a short mantle, white gloves, and unique grey metallic boots. A notable feature is a red metallic glove on her right hand, destroyed in her final battle and never replaced.
Her deep devotion to Backbeard and unwavering mission commitment initially present a cold, subservient demeanor. However, Adele's true motivation stems from protecting her younger sister, Agnès. As children, Adele witnessed Agnès's volatile magical outbursts and learned Backbeard intended to sacrifice Agnès for the Brigadoon Project, which would transform Japan into a yōkai realm. After their mother sacrificed herself under Backbeard's orders to spare Agnès, Adele dedicated herself to mastering magic, hoping to replace Agnès as the ritual's nucleus. This created a rift, as Agnès misinterpreted Adele's actions as betrayal.
Adele's primary abilities involve creating Magic Stones imbued with specific effects: teleportation (blue), light swords (purple), barriers (red), incendiary explosions (violet), flight via geometric wings (green), long-distance communication (pink), and recall (orange). She is also a skilled markswoman. Though possessing less raw magical power than Agnès, Adele compensates through rigorous training and knowledge, making her a formidable witch. Her equipment includes the Ring of Arcana, though Backbeard deemed her power insufficient for the Brigadoon ritual.
Throughout the conflict, Adele relentlessly pursued the Ring of Arcana, essential for the Brigadoon Project. She invaded the GeGeGe Forest with Western yōkai allies, using incendiary stones to burn it down. She repeatedly clashed with Kitarō and his allies, kidnapping humans linked to the ring, including Yayoi Kuzumi and Mana Inuyama. In a critical moment, Adele captured Agnès and revealed her plan to sacrifice herself in Agnès's place. When Backbeard rejected her substitution and attacked her, Agnès intervened, offering her own life to spare Adele.
Severely injured, Adele later provided a multicolored healing stone to Mana to save Kitarō. During Backbeard's final assault, Adele removed the Ring of Arcana from Agnès's finger, enabling Kitarō to defeat Backbeard and destroy the ring. After recovering, Adele reconciled with Agnès. The sisters left Backbeard's influence behind, traveling the world together to find a new purpose. Adele also paid respects at Miminaga's grave, symbolizing her integration into the GeGeGe Forest community and rejection of her past allegiance.
Her character arc transitions from an antagonist driven by misguided loyalty to a redeemed figure prioritizing familial love over duty, marked by self-sacrificial actions and a peaceful life with Agnès.
