Movie
Description
Originating from the Anpanman universe, Komusubiman draws his name indirectly from the "komusubi" rank in professional sumo. His distinctive design features a head shaped like a small rice ball ("komusubi"), complete with a wrapping behind it, and he is typically depicted wearing traditional Japanese clothing.

He serves as the young disciple of the wandering ronin-style hero, Omusubiman. Under this mentorship, Komusubiman trains to become a samurai hero, learning the bushido principles of justice, bravery, compassion, courtesy, honesty, honor, loyalty, and self-control. His relationship with Umeko-chan is noted as a love interest within the narrative.

Komusubiman debuted on July 14, 1990, in a short film attached to the second Anpanman movie, featuring the stories "Komusubiman of Hitokuchi Village" and "Tanuki Oni of the Haunted Temple." Following this introduction, he became a recurring figure in numerous episodes, frequently appearing alongside Omusubiman. These consistent appearances solidified his role as a popular minor character within the series.

His character development extends across various media. Alongside Omusubiman, Komusubiman stars in a dedicated DVD compilation highlighting their adventures. This release also features a variant narrative involving "Black Omusubiman," indicating expanded explorations of his character and world. The core traits of his design, including the implied umeboshi (pickled plum) filling in his head—though never explicitly confirmed—remain consistent throughout his appearances.

While Komusubiman does not headline his own spin-off series, his partnership with Omusubiman resulted in significant focus within anthology-style films and dedicated compilations, marking him as a recognizable figure within the broader franchise.
