Kaname Asagiri, the son of Jirou and Momoko Asagiri, was born six years into their marriage. At age two, his parents adopted Aya following the miscarriage death of their biological daughter, caused by Jirou. Jirou enforced strict academic perfection on Kaname, demanding admission to Tokyo University. Failure brought physical and emotional abuse, like being struck for scoring 98/100. Kaname cultivated a polite, studious, and caring facade for parents, teachers, and peers, yet internally harbored intense resentment towards his father and a deep misanthropy. He dismissed most humans as worthless, viewing their concerns as foolish and existence wasteful, even questioning if he was a god trapped in human flesh. His strained bond with Jirou contrasted sharply with genuine love for his unconditionally loving and kind mother, Momoko.
Privately, Kaname displayed sociopathic and sadistic tendencies, using his adoptive sister Aya as a "punching bag" for stress relief. He regularly abused her physically, rationalizing it as an outlet for his pressure and retribution for her perceived easier life without academic demands. He targeted Aya specifically because she couldn't fight back and his actions faced no social consequences. This stemmed from a desire for control and warped superiority, delighting in causing pain and manipulating others. Despite this cruelty, he harbored protective feelings for his mother, refusing to let the Magical Girl Site administrators harm her, though indifferent to his father’s fate.
Discovering the Magical Girl Site and its powers escalated Kaname's actions. Learning of Aya’s involvement, he manipulated Nijimi Anazawa, a magical girl obsessed with him. He exploited her trust to steal her magical stick—a pair of panties granting mind-control. Using this power, he commanded Keisuke Naoto to stab himself to death, feeling no remorse for someone he deemed worthless. He later openly betrayed Nijimi, admitting he only used her for magical access. When she retaliated, he killed her using another magical girl's stick, Sayuki Ringa’s katana. During this fight, Nijimi fatally wounded him by slashing his throat with a broken bottle.
Captured afterward by Kichiro Misumi, Kaname endured physical and sexual abuse, including rape, while being trained like a dog. He eventually escaped and collapsed in public, leading to hospitalization. Police questioned him about Misumi, but he refused to cooperate. During recovery, Site administrator Nana informed him about the impending Tempest threatening his family. This prompted Kaname to focus on protecting his mother, retrieving Nijimi’s stick from his room. After his father’s death, Kaname expressed relief but remained bitter towards Aya, mockingly revealing their lack of biological relation and sarcastically apologizing for killing Nijimi. He showed no remorse and selfishly demanded Aya protect him from the Tempest.
Kaname’s character shifted pivotally near the series end. When Aya used her powers to transfer most of his remaining lifespan to prevent stick-wielding, he reacted angrily. He quietly accepted this after witnessing her determination to protect him and their mother. Later, as Aya prepared to jump back in time to prevent tragedies affecting her friends, Kaname used his last lifespan with Nijimi’s stick to embed a final command deep in Aya’s mind. He ordered her never to save the world unless she secured her own happiness in the new timeline. This selfless sacrifice, driven by underlying guilt and remorse for her suffering, aimed to ensure her future well-being.
In the alternate timeline created by Aya’s actions, Kaname’s life diverged significantly. Spared his father’s abuse and unrealistic expectations, he developed into a genuinely kinder, more patient person. He displayed a relaxed demeanor, smiling openly at his father during a casual conversation, and appeared to have a healthier relationship with Aya, joining her and her friends on a beach outing.
Physically, Kaname is tall and attractive with pale skin, stylized blue hair, and glasses. When using Nijimi’s stick, the tips of his hair turn white, and the stick’s ace emblem appears across his eyes and wrist. His abilities came from stolen magical sticks: mind control via Nijimi’s panties, hardening through Sayuki’s katana, and firing laser beams from a teddy bear stick given by Kichiro.
