Description
Kiryu Setsuna, called "The Beautiful Beast," emerges from a traumatic past. Born in the lawless Inside, he was confined as organ stock for his wealthy biological father, enduring abuse. His circumstances changed when a young Tokita Ohma intervened, killing his captors mistakenly believing they encroached on his territory. Kiryu interpreted this as divine intervention, viewing Ohma as a god destined to destroy him, sparking obsessive devotion. To fund his search for Ohma, Kiryu engaged in child prostitution, gaining connections that enabled him to locate and kill his biological father, stealing his wealth.
Years later, Kiryu found Ohma under the tutelage of Tokita Niko, whom Kiryu saw as a corrupting "devil" defiling his "god." This encounter also introduced him to "The Other Tokita Niko," who informed him about Tokita Niko and taught him elements of the Niko Style. Directed to martial artist Taira Genzan, Kiryu became his student, mastering the near-extinct Koei Style. To incite Ohma's wrath, Kiryu later killed Genzan before Ohma could seek vengeance for Genzan's role in the death of Ohma's own master.
Outwardly polite and effeminate in appearance, with defined musculature, long black hair, and gentle livid-colored eyes, Kiryu's demeanor masks severe psychosis and a distorted worldview. His obsession with Ohma manifests as religious fervor, worshipping Ohma as a god of destruction and despising Tokita Niko as a defiler. Overuse of the Fallen Demon technique exacerbated his mental instability, inducing hallucinations of Niko inhabiting others, compelling Kiryu to kill them. Though Ohma later subdued this madness, Kiryu's psyche retained dark inclinations.
Representing the Koyo Academy Group in the Kengan Annihilation Tournament, Kiryu aimed to confront Ohma. He demonstrated combat prowess with quick victories against opponents like Ozu Toshio and Nikaido Ren. During his match against Kuroki Gensai, Kiryu hallucinated Kuroki as Niko, fighting relentlessly until near-fatal defeat. Post-tournament, he wandered the Kengan Dome during a coup, killing guards under delusions of protecting others from Niko. A pivotal clash occurred when Kiryu attacked Yamashita Kazuo (hallucinated as Niko), leading to a battle where Ohma dominated with the Niko Style and neutralized Kiryu's Fallen Demon state. Kiryu was imprisoned but escaped.
Two years later, Kiryu resurfaced with altered motivations, shifting his fixation toward grooming Gaoh Ryuki as a new "god." He mentored Ryuki in the Koei Style to prepare him to defeat Ohma. Kiryu approached Ryuki during a mental crisis, comparing their losses and questioning Ryuki's willingness to "go through hell" for his loved one.
Kiryu possesses prodigious martial talent. He mastered the lethal Koei Style technique Rakshasa's Palm—a twisting strike damaging internal organs—within a year, far quicker than the typical eight years. He modified it into the more lethal True Rakshasa's Palm and combined it with Niko Style techniques like Swimming Swallow to create "Mingling of the Tiger and Fox." His use of Fallen Demon allowed heightened perception and speed during critical moments, accelerating mental degradation. Additional skills include Flashfire (creating afterimages), Blink (exploiting opponents' blinks for stealth), and Indestructible (muscle clenching for damage reduction). His endurance is notable, evidenced by walking away after a heart injury from Kuroki. He stands 180 cm (5'11") tall and weighs 75 kg (165 lbs).
