Description
Reika Minamiya is the younger sister of Reiu Minamiya, the pilot of AG Unit 04 who vanished during the Jupiter Trojan campaign. Her family, especially her father Gen Minamiya, resists her enlistment, burdened by grief over Reiu's disappearance and blaming the DG energy technology he developed. Defying them, Reika joins the anti-Nergal AG unit to find her missing sister and defend Earth from the colossal space-borne Nergal invaders.
She fails the standard qualifying tests but is unexpectedly chosen by "Shennong," an ancient humanoid weapon from the excavated "G's Frame" mecha, requiring pilots called "Ancient Girls." This selection occurs during a Nergal attack that traps her and friend Misaki Yoshizaki, triggering Shennong's activation. Initially struggling with the machine due to inexperience and emotion, she gradually forges a connection, solidified when her desperate plea during a critical Borneo Island battle prompts Shennong to protect her unit.
Her journey confronts personal anxieties and familial strife as she adapts to her pilot role, driven by her sister's legacy into high-risk missions. These include Jupiter operations to investigate signals from Shennong and battles within the Mega Red Spot. She displays persistent loyalty to comrades like Misaki and grapples with revelations about her sister's fate and potential military involvement. Reika overcomes self-doubt in combat, such as when the AG spaceship is damaged and rerouted to Mars, leading her to explore alien ruins connected to the G's Frames' origins.
Her relationship with Reiu remains central, culminating in direct confrontations during large-scale battles, including a pivotal encounter where Reiu appears atop a massive Nergal near Jupiter. The conflict escalates as Nergal swarms threaten Earth, forcing activation of the planetary defense system DGI, which halts the invasion but causes widespread disruption. In the final stand, she pilots Shennong alongside other G's Frames, including the long-lost Asena, to rescue Earth. Her arc concludes as she embraces her protector role, resolved to safeguard humanity while seeking closure about her sister.
