Description
Imperial Marquis Wilhelm von Littenheim III belonged to one of the Galactic Empire's most powerful noble houses under the late Goldenbaum Dynasty. His marriage to Princess Christine, a daughter of Kaiser Friedrich IV, integrated him into the imperial family and positioned his daughter, Sabine von Littenheim, as a potential heir. This status fueled a bitter political rivalry with Duke Otho von Braunschweig, another imperial son-in-law whose daughter Elisabeth also contended for the throne. Both families concealed a critical secret: Sabine and Elisabeth inherited a genetic disease through their mothers—sisters of Friedrich IV. Discovery under the Inferior Genes Exclusion Act would have disqualified them and brought disgrace. Littenheim ruthlessly suppressed this knowledge, betraying and attempting to assassinate his relative Count Herxheimer after Herxheimer uncovered the secret; Herxheimer died fleeing to the Free Planets Alliance.
Littenheim opposed Reinhard von Lohengramm's rise, seeing him as a threat to the nobility. In 792 UC, he backed Count Herxheimer in a mining rights dispute against Viscountess Dorothea von Schafhausen. When Reinhard agreed to duel for the Viscountess, Littenheim hired an assassin to kill him, though the attempt failed. Following Friedrich IV's death in 796 UC, Littenheim allied with his rival Braunschweig after Prime Minister Klaus von Lichtenlade named Friedrich IV's grandson, Erwin Josef II, emperor with Reinhard's support. This alliance formed the Lippstadt League, a coalition of nearly 4,000 nobles opposing the Lohengramm-Lichtenlade faction, with Littenheim as deputy leader.
After the Lippstadt League abandoned Odin following a failed assassination on Reinhard, Littenheim escaped to Geiersburg Fortress, receiving the rank of high admiral. Duke Braunschweig later dispatched him to quell rebellious frontier fiefs, partly to remove him from Geiersburg. Littenheim established his fleet at Garmisch Fortress but proved a poor military leader, lacking strategic skill and relying solely on numerical superiority. At the Battle of Kyffhäuser, his disorganized forces suffered a decisive defeat by Siegfried Kircheis's smaller fleet. During the retreat, Littenheim ordered his ships to fire on their own supply fleet to clear an escape path. This act provoked Commander Rauditz, a supply fleet survivor, to confront him at Garmisch. After Littenheim ordered Rauditz executed, Rauditz detonated a concealed explosive, killing himself, Littenheim, and everyone in the command center.
