Description
Baron Flegel, a high noble and nephew of Duke Otto von Braunschweig, served as a Vice Admiral in the Galactic Empire's Imperial Navy, commanding the flagship *Wilhelmina*. In 795 UC, he participated in the imprisonment and torture of Rear Admiral Wolfgang Mittermeyer. After interrogators failed, Flegel personally beat the restrained Mittermeyer. Provoked by an accusation of cowardice, Flegel removed Mittermeyer's handcuffs to fight fairly, only to be easily defeated. He then ordered his companions to shoot Mittermeyer, an act prevented by Admiral Reinhard von Müsel's intervention.
Flegel collaborated with officers and nobles opposing Reinhard von Lohengramm, covertly inciting conspiracies. He manipulated Susanna von Benemunde to plot assassinations against Reinhard or his sister while ensuring no evidence traced back to him. Stationed at Iserlohn Fortress under Fleet Admiral Gregor von Mückenberger, who valued his political connections, Flegel accompanied von Mückenberger during the Fourth Battle of Tiamat.
Returning to Odin in 796 UC, Flegel conspired with Braunschweig to eliminate Reinhard, proposing to leak Imperial military plans to Fezzan, anticipating they would be sold to the Free Planets Alliance. Despite this scheme, Reinhard won the subsequent campaign. Flegel was present at the Lippstadt League's formation and served his uncle as a Vice Admiral during the Imperial Civil War. He died in a mutiny after ordering his ship on a suicide charge, his final words being "Long live the Empire." His name, meaning both a threshing tool and an insolent person, reflected his unkind and dangerous nature.
