Description
Fritz Josef Bittenfeld is a High Admiral in the Galactic Empire's fleet, serving under Reinhard von Lohengramm. Born in 767 UC, he commands the Black Lancers fleet, instantly recognizable by its black-painted warships. This fleet exclusively employs fast battleships, prioritizing speed and offensive power, and forges a reputation for aggressive shock assaults and exceptional combat mobility.

His military ascent begins when Reinhard observes him during the Sixth Battle of Iserlohn; then a captain, Bittenfeld sinks two enemy ships in a single volley. Rising to Vice Admiral, he leads the Black Lancers at the Battle of Lügen, defeating the Free Planets Alliance's 10th Fleet and killing Vice Admiral Ulanhu. At the Battle of Amritsar, his fleet destroys the Alliance's 8th Fleet, killing Vice Admiral Appleton, but suffers severe damage after prematurely deploying Valkyrie units against Yang Wen-li's 13th Fleet. Reinhard considers a court-martial for this error but pardons him following Siegfried Kircheis's plea.

Promoted to High Admiral, Bittenfeld pursues Yang Wen-li after the Alliance's collapse. Defying Reinhard's orders, he enters the Iserlohn Corridor alongside Admiral Fahrenheit's fleet. Yang's forces outmaneuver them in close quarters, inflicting significant Imperial losses: the Black Lancers lose 6,220 of 15,900 ships, and Fahrenheit's fleet loses 8,490 of 15,200 ships, including Fahrenheit's flagship. Total casualties exceed two million. Bittenfeld accepts responsibility for the defeat and Fahrenheit's death, but Reinhard declines punishment, acknowledging the action aligned with Bittenfeld's character.

The surviving Fahrenheit Fleet merges with the Black Lancers, adopting the black paint scheme but retaining standard battleships instead of fast battleships. Coordination suffers due to lingering resentment over Fahrenheit's death. During the Reuenthal Rebellion, Bittenfeld is placed under house arrest after assaulting Fleet Admiral Paul von Oberstein, though later released to command the Black Lancers at the Battle of Shiva.

Bittenfeld possesses a volatile temperament and singular focus on frontal assaults, frequently neglecting defense. His eagerness for battle often clouds tactical judgment, leading to errors. Despite this, his combat prowess remains an asset, and he displays no fear confronting formidable opponents. He openly disdains caution, once declaring that "the goddess of victory is waving her underwear in our faces" to urge aggression.

Personally unmarried with no documented hobbies, he attends a ballet with Reinhard, masking his boredom with feigned, enthusiastic applause. He adheres to a family tradition of vocal praise and denunciation.

Following Reinhard's deathbed recommendation, Hildegard von Mariendorf promotes Bittenfeld to Fleet Admiral in 801 UC. He survives beyond this year, continuing service in the Lohengramm Dynasty.
