Description
Jean Robert Lapp, financially strained, enrolled in the Free Planets Alliance Officer Academy seeking free education. During his studies, he forged close bonds with cadet Yang Wen-li and Jessica Edwards, the bursar’s daughter. The trio engaged in student activism and shared frequent companionship. In 785 UC, Lapp backed Jessica’s protest against disbanding the War History Studies Department, though it proved unsuccessful.

Graduating in 787 UC, Lapp’s assignments restricted meetings with Yang, relying on Jessica to convey messages. By 795 UC, he attained Lieutenant Commander rank as a 6th Fleet staff officer. His career stalled without combat opportunities to showcase his talents, contrasting Yang’s trajectory. Despite this, Lapp held no bitterness and confided in Yang his plans to propose to Jessica Edwards, his long-term partner.

In January 796 UC, Lapp deployed against Reinhard von Lohengramm’s Imperial fleet during the Battle of Astarte, stationed aboard the 6th Fleet flagship *Pergamonn*. Following the 4th Fleet’s destruction, he urged Vice Admiral Moore to regroup with the 2nd Fleet—advice rejected. When encircled, Lapp advocated accepting Reinhard’s surrender to save lives. Moore accused him of inciting mutiny and refused. Imperial forces destroyed the *Pergamonn*, killing Lapp. He received a posthumous promotion to Captain.

Lapp’s death deeply affected Jessica Edwards. After grieving, she committed to anti-war activism and politics, rising as an opposition leader within the Alliance. Her work focused on preventing personal tragedies like hers, defining her career until her death in the Alliance Civil War. Anti-war activists later memorialized her through the Edwards Committee, indirectly preserving Lapp’s legacy. Yang Wen-li visited Lapp’s grave on Heinessen, underscoring his lasting personal impact.
