Description
Andō Morinari, a historical samurai from Mino Province, initially served the Saitō clan as a prominent member of the "Mino Triumvirate" alongside Inaba Yoshimichi and Ujiie Naotomo, holding significant military influence. His pivotal defection to Oda Nobunaga’s forces during the 1567 Siege of Inabayama Castle contributed directly to the Saitō clan’s collapse.
As a retainer under Nobunaga, Morinari fought in key campaigns including the 1570 Battle of Anegawa, the Sieges of Nagashima, and the prolonged assaults against the Ishiyama Honganji fortress. In 1580, following the Honganji conflict’s resolution, Nobunaga dismissed him over suspicions of disloyalty or ambitions against the Oda clan. Attempts to regain Nobunaga’s favor failed, and Morinari died a ronin on June 27, 1582.
