Description
Shintaro Kisaragi isolates himself completely within his room for nearly two years after the suicide of Ayano Tateyama, his close friend and unrequited love. Intense guilt over failing to prevent her death, coupled with his withdrawn and initially apathetic nature, fuels this isolation.

His secluded routine fractures when a mysterious entity hijacks his computer screen, forcing him outside. On this errand, he encounters Ene, a digital consciousness residing in his devices. Ene's constant, disruptive presence mocks his hikikomori existence while simultaneously pushing him to re-engage with the world.

Events escalate dramatically when Shintaro is seemingly shot dead. Instead of dying, he awakens possessing the "Snapping Eyes" (Mekakushi), a supernatural power granting clear perception of the immediate future within his vision, enabling exceptional reaction time and combat foresight.

This awakening draws Shintaro into the Mekakushi Dan, a group of teenagers with similar eye abilities. He learns Ayano founded and led this group. Thrust into conflicts involving other ability users and dangerous entities like the Snake of Clearing Eyes, Shintaro reluctantly joins their missions.

A critical revelation exposes time loops centered on August 15th. Shintaro discovers he has repeatedly lived through this day, each time failing to prevent Ayano's death. These loops originated from his own desperate wish upon encountering the Snake of Clearing Eyes, born from overwhelming grief and his desire to save her.

Throughout countless loops, profound development occurs. Constant failures and interactions with the Mekakushi Dan erode Shintaro's apathy and isolation. He forms genuine bonds, particularly with Takane Enomoto (Ene's origin), and begins to understand the value of connection and the burdens others carry.

This journey forces him to confront his past cowardice, guilt, and self-loathing. He transitions from a passive observer to an active participant, eventually assuming the leadership role Ayano once held. He strategically wields his Snapping Eyes ability and intellect to protect his friends and challenge the forces manipulating them, including the Snake of Clearing Eyes.

The culmination of his development arrives when he devises a plan to permanently break the time loops. Understanding Ayano's sacrifice was necessary to prevent catastrophe, he chooses to accept her death. He confronts the Snake of Clearing Eyes directly, sacrificing his own life to sever its connection to the timeline and reset events to a point before the loops began.

In the reset world, Shintaro revives alongside Ayano and the Mekakushi Dan. Free from the loops and the Snake's influence, he lives a more engaged life, actively attending school with his friends. While retaining traces of his introverted personality, he demonstrates significant emotional growth, openness, and a strong commitment to protecting the connections he once shunned. The Mekakushi Dan continues under his leadership, focused on helping others with their abilities.
