Suffering a significant injury before the 41st Summer Inter High tournament during the prefectural qualifiers, Yoshimoto was hospitalized with his left leg bandaged. Confined to his hospital bed, he maintained his cycling dedication through grip strength training and studying cycling magazines. Taura visited daily after practice with team updates, though Yoshimoto voiced concerns about the team growing "cocky" in his absence. This injury ultimately barred him from the Inter High competition.

Recovered post-Inter High, Yoshimoto returned as Kumamoto Daiichi's ace for the demanding Kumamoto Hi Province Mountain Range Race, a high-level event attracting top national teams. His exceptional climbing prowess, forged on Mount Aso's challenging slopes, earned him the epithet "The Land of Fire's Climber of Flame," marking his competitive comeback.
