Description
James's Inkay is a male Pokémon first encountered on Kalos's Route 4. It displayed mischievous behavior by stealing food from Team Rocket at a Lumiose City café, a food-motivated tendency James exploited to capture it using bait. As a Dark/Psychic-type Revolving Pokémon, it possesses luminescent spots used to daze opponents, communicate complex rhythms, flee threats, or interact with its own kind.

Its personality blends sneakiness and a strong affinity for food, often acting independently to snatch meals, including leaving its Poké Ball unprompted. Despite this, it shows fierce loyalty to James. This bond allowed it to break the hypnotic control of an antagonistic Malamar during a critical encounter, triggered by James offering a croissant. Inkay held a lasting grudge against this Malamar for prior manipulation and its global domination plans, actively seeking revenge and rallying other Inkay and Malamar to thwart the scheme.

In battle, Inkay is resourceful and capable, employing moves like Psybeam, Tackle, Topsy-Turvy, and Ink Spray to obstruct attacks or disorient foes. It achieved victories against opponents including Officer Jenny's Manectric and Clemont's Bunnelby. It also performed combination attacks, fusing its Psybeam with other Pokémon's moves. Despite opportunities, it chose not to evolve into Malamar, reflecting a preference for its base form.

Notable collaborations include partnering with Jessie's Gourgeist in a dance competition and engaging in tag battles, such as alongside Miette's Slurpuff against Ash's Pikachu and Serena's Eevee. During Team Flare's uprising, Inkay assisted in protecting Z2 and battled adversaries like Celosia's Drapion and the Megalith Zygarde. Its final Kalos engagement ended in defeat against Ash's Greninja and Alain's Charizard, resulting in Team Rocket's expulsion.

After Kalos, James initially left Inkay at Team Rocket Headquarters, but it later rejoined the team for a mission to capture Pikachu. During this mission, it contributed to a multi-Pokémon combined attack, though the plan failed due to intervention by a wild Latias.
