Its background includes frequent conflicts with Clemont's Chespin, primarily triggered when Chespin consumed Serena's dessert Pofflés during lunch. Despite Serena's instructions to maintain friendly relations, their similar personalities often reignited arguments. However, they occasionally collaborated effectively when required.

In battles and performances, Yancham utilized a moveset of Dark Pulse, Arm Thrust, Stone Edge, and Ice Punch. It demonstrated these capabilities in Double Battles against Team Rocket and Pokémon Showcases. During Serena's Lilycove City Pokémon Contest participation, Yancham performed Ice Punch alongside her Sylveon and Delphox, resulting in a tied victory with Lisia.

Throughout Serena's journey, Yancham evolved from a temperamental Pokémon into a cooperative team member. Serena actively encouraged it to resolve conflicts with Chespin, reinforcing their role as allies.
