Description
Ranmaru Shikigami is a purple Battler sporting long, spiked hair tied in a ponytail, predominantly blonde with distinct purple bangs, and orange eyes. He wears a primarily white and purple long shirt with pink trim, baggy white pants, black arm coverings, black shoes, and a black necklace featuring a blue orb.
Personality-wise, Ranmaru exhibits cryptic and manipulative tendencies, often operating behind the scenes to advance his objectives. He displays unwavering loyalty to his master, Dairoku Tenmaou, alongside a pronounced sadistic streak.
In the anime storyline, Ranmaru serves as a key follower of Dairoku Tenmaou. He initially confronts Kanetsugu Houryokuin in a forest battle, deliberately losing to assess Kanetsugu's potential with Soul Core energy. Later, under Tenmaou's directive, he provides Kanetsugu with new cards. After Kanetsugu loses to Yukimura Rekka, Ranmaru challenges him again seriously, reveals his prior intentional defeat, and subsequently defeats Kanetsugu. Seizing control of Musashi, he enforces the exclusive use of Kanetsugu's deck among local children under threat of banning them from Battle Spirits. This rule persists until Toshiie Homura defeats Ranmaru in battle, liberating Musashi. Ranmaru later joins the Warring States Championship alongside Tenmaou and Toukichirou Mashira. He wins his initial round but loses in the second round to Hanzou Hyakki. Following Tenmaou's tournament defeat, Ranmaru undergoes reformation and departs on a journey with Toukichirou and Tenmaou.
The manga adaptation presents a significantly diverging narrative. Ranmaru remains consistently aligned with Dairokuten Maou throughout, with strong implications of a romantic relationship between them despite Ranmaru being male. During Dairokuten Maou's confrontation with his acknowledged rival, Yukimura, Ranmaru is present as Maou's companion. Maou defeats all challengers except Yukimura, including his ally Toukichirou.
Ranmaru employs a purple-centric deck featuring key spirits such as The Necromancer Yakumo, The Necromancer Mumei, Camelot Knight, and Straw-Puppet, supported by magic cards including Vampiric Nail and Death Massacre. His battle record includes an intentional loss against Kanetsugu (Episode 9), a victory over Kanetsugu (Episode 17), a defeat by Toshiie (Episode 21), and a loss to Hanzou (Episode 37).
