Description
Dame Dedtime began as Otoki, a human errand-runner for the emperor in Japan's Sengoku period around 1591, betrothed to Senkichi. Falsely accused of breaking a rare wind clock entrusted to her by Shogun Waitington, she was imprisoned for life. Her bitterness and negative emotions manifested as the first Wicked Yo-kai during her imprisonment. After death, these unresolved feelings transformed her into the powerful Yo-kai Dame Dedtime.
As a Yo-kai, Dame Dedtime has an elderly appearance with greyish, wrinkled skin, violet hair styled like a courtesan, and a golden hairpiece with scarlet threads. She wears layered orange and dark green noblewoman garments fastened by an orange obi and a black haori lined in gold. Her primary accessory is a violet cane resembling an hourglass with a lime-green handle. Her abilities include manipulating time through her cane and a giant clock apparatus, generating sonic screams manifesting as purple energy waves, cryokinesis, and electrokinesis. She uniquely creates Wicked Yo-kai through flatulence and absorbs human happiness to fuel transformations. Her Soultimate move, "Tamer of Time," drains life force.
Motivated by her wrongful imprisonment to "rob humans of their happiness, just as she was robbed of hers," she seeks to sever bonds between humans and Yo-kai. She orchestrates conflicts by manipulating the Bony Spirits and Fleshy Souls factions into war. Her Wicked Yo-kai minions, including executives Kin, Gin, Bronzlow, and Untidy, possess humans to drain positive emotions. Her ultimate goal is rewriting history to prevent the Yo-kai Watch's creation, ensuring eternal discord.
Initially defeated as Dedtime, she absorbs accumulated human misery to transform into Dame Demona. This evolved state features a fuchsia serpentine body with four arms, a beast-like face with red eyes encircled by blue patterns, and spiked wing-like braids. As Dame Demona, she gains heightened destructive capabilities and the "Finale" Soultimate move. In cinematic confrontation, she evolves further into Kyodai Ubaune, a colossal entity composed of millions of miniature Dame Demona clones assimilated after her minions' defeat.
Following defeat in the core timeline, she is imprisoned for 60 years within the lowest level of the Infinite Inferno. During this confinement, a revelation facilitated by time travel reshapes her character: learning Senkichi awaited her return throughout her imprisonment dissolves her hatred. This transforms her into Dame Deartime, a purified form with lighter lily-colored hair, gentle facial features, and the absence of previous dark shading. As Dame Deartime, she renounces her vendetta against humanity, releases control over the Wicked Yo-kai, and dedicates herself to atonement within the Infinite Inferno. Her character arc concludes with this redemption.
