Description
Lady Desdicha, also known as Dame Dedtime or Tokio Ubaune, originated as a human servant named Otoki (or Madame Otoki) during Japan's Sengoku period. False accusations of breaking Shogun Waitington's precious clock resulted in her life imprisonment for a crime she didn't commit. This injustice bred profound bitterness; upon death, her resentment over stolen time and happiness transformed her into a vengeful Yo-kai.
Her core motivation became vengeance against humanity, specifically robbing them of time and happiness to mirror her own suffering. She created the Wicked tribe Yo-kai and orchestrated events to sever bonds between humans and Yo-kai. This included manipulating history to prevent the Yo-kai Watch's creation 60 years before the main story and inciting conflict between the Bony Spirits and Fleshy Souls factions. As the central antagonist in "Yo-kai Watch: The Movie," she kidnapped Jibanyan and directed minions Kin, Gin, and Bronzlow against the protagonists. After their defeat, she absorbed their power to become Kyodai Ubaune, a massive serpentine entity composed of countless miniature Dame Demona clones.
Physically, she manifests as an elderly woman with greyish, wrinkled skin, violet hair styled like a courtesan, and a golden hairpiece with scarlet tassels. She wears layered noblewoman robes in orange, green, and black, carrying an hourglass-shaped cane. Absorbing significant human aura evolves her into Dame Demona (Subete Ubaune), gaining a fuchsia serpentine body, four arms, red eyes encircled by blue markings, and wing-like braids. Her powers encompass generating Wicked Yo-kai, unleashing sonic shouts, firing energy blasts from her cane, manipulating time to heal herself, and employing elemental attacks like lightning, ice, and wind. Her signature technique, "Level Steal," weakens foes by draining their levels to summon Wicked minions.
Her character arc concludes with redemption in "Yo-kai Watch 2: Psychic Specters." Imprisoned for 60 years in the Infinite Inferno, she recounted her past during a film project by Directator. Time travel revealed evidence that her lover Senkichi awaited her return, leading her to realize her hatred was misplaced. This epiphany triggered her transformation into Dame Deartime (Kireina Ubaune), characterized by lighter lilac hair, softer facial features, and the loss of her malevolent aura. Reformed, she remained in the Infinite Inferno, facilitated befriending elite Wicked Yo-kai, and later operated a sukiyaki restaurant.
Beyond the core narrative, she appears as a recruitable SSS-rank Shady tribe Yo-kai in "Yo-kai Watch: Wibble Wobble" events. In "Yo-kai Watch Blasters," she features as a boss exclusive to the Red Cat Corps storyline. Her post-redemption activities in "Yo-kai Watch 3" involve assisting her former elite Wicked Yo-kai "children" in managing a restaurant alongside McKraken, reflecting her ongoing atonement.
