Description
Yuu Otosaka starts as a self-centered teenager, exploiting his five-second possession ability to manipulate academics and social circles, driven by a thirst for admiration and status. His narcissism manifests in orchestrating perilous situations with little regard for others' safety, contrasted by genuine care exclusively for his younger sister, Ayumi. Their close bond sustains them in their parentless home, where he silently endures her cooking marked by excessive pizza sauce.

Forced into the Hoshinoumi Academy student council, his initial reluctance to help others slowly erodes through missions and interactions, particularly with Nao Tomori. Yet, his core loyalty remains fixed on Ayumi. Her death shatters him, triggering a descent into abandoning school, violent clashes with delinquents, and near drug addiction until Nao intervenes. This becomes a turning point, driving his return to the council and fostering a deeper sense of responsibility toward peers.

A critical revelation reshapes Yuu's identity: his true power is "Plunder," allowing him to permanently steal abilities during possession. This coincides with recovered memories of his older brother, Shunsuke, who used time-leap powers across timelines to protect ability-users. Yuu steals Shunsuke's ability to prevent Ayumi's death, succeeding but inadvertently exposing them to terrorists. The subsequent kidnapping of Nao and Kumagami—ending in Kumagami's death—ignites his resolve to protect ability-users worldwide. He pledges to Nao to travel the globe, stealing every ability to prevent exploitation.

This mission extracts a severe price. Accumulating powers fractures his memory, brings insomnia and PTSD-like symptoms, and severs his connection to identity and past. His body deteriorates, marked by a distinctive eye injury requiring a medical patch, later hidden beneath longer hair. Emotionally numb and dubbed the "One-Eyed Grim Reaper," he operates with mechanical efficiency, though flickers of humanity remain, like sparing the last ability-user after stealing her power of courage. By the journey's end, he is a hollow shell, nearly unresponsive even to physical harm.

Rescued and returned to Japan, Yuu retains no memories of his life or relationships. His personality resets to a blank slate, yet latent kindness surfaces when comforting a grieving Nao. He voices quiet optimism about building new memories with friends and family, signaling the close of his evolution from egocentric cheater to self-sacrificing guardian.
